The Domino Effect
I like to think of myself as a multi-tasker.
After all, isn't that a requirement for being a mom?
I must be out of practice though because I have totally lost
my ability to do more than one thing at a time.
I'm in the biggest mess.
Last week I found myself:
Returning to work after 6 weeks off.
Getting ready for and having a garage sale.
Moving the TV from one wall to another in my living room.
The TV move might seem like a piece of cake but it really wasn't.
Here's where the domino effect comes in.
I couldn't simply move the TV.
Nothing I do is ever that easy.
I had to:
Get rid of my old (actually more like ancient) TV.
Get rid of the old TV cabinet.
Buy a new TV.
Have electrical and cable outlets installed on the new wall.
One thing just led to another.
I decided to do all of this my first week back to school
and the week before my garage sale.
Just stupid.
So here's where the TV used to be...this wall is the first
thing you see when you walk in my front door.
Now it's on the opposite wall in a bookcase.
I had the new outlets installed inside the cabinet.
But of course I had to empty it out first.
Notice the door doesn't close.
The DVR box is in there and even though I measured
it's just a little too big.
Not sure what to do now...
So basically yesterday my entire house looked like a bomb went off in it.
I have managed to restore some order to my living room.
My garage? Not so much.
I wanted to join the Entry linky party and the Rooster/Hens party.
So sorry I didn't make either one.
Hopefully I'll get my act together soon.
Thanks for listening...

I'm sure you're an excellent multi-tasker, Ann! I just think you encountered a serious case of "Murphy's Law". I can't tell you the number of times my husband has had to cut a hole in the back of a shelf, cabinet or wall to make a too-large piece of AV equipment fit. We just replaced a tv similar to you old one and we forgot that the armoire had the back cut out- because you totally can't see when the door's closed!! Best of luck finding a solution. I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with for the next time something doesn't fit in a cabinet at my house!
I totally understand! Sometimes I try to do too much or don't you my time well or something..not sure what a good excuse is. :O=)
Love the way you put the equipment in the cabinet. We did something similar and to tell you the truth we got rid of the VCR player because it didn't fit. You can buy really small DVRs.
The more I read your posts, the better I like you! We sincerely would be good friends given the chance! This post could be mine!! Ditto on all things. I usually think I can do more than I can--and it is usually the domino effect ending in a crash. *wimper wimper* :P What can I say? I truly think age has something to do with the progressive inability to multi-task. Or could it be, the tasks are far more complex than we are willing to admit or realize?...
I've heard that DVR's and such don't fit in standard 12" shelves which is such a pain sometimes. I'm sure you'll get your act together when your work routine kicks in. I hope your yard sale is a success. Have a great week. Pamela
Oh, honey. I worried about that yard sale before school started. And I didn't even know about moving the tv. I think your multi-tasking talents have just been packed away during the summer. I bet you'll find them this week at school. Just keep pulling open all those drawers until it all starts clicking again.
You've had a lot on your plate, girl. And buying and placing a tv is not as simple as it used to be. Just remember, this too shall pass!
You are in good company, my friend! My hubby always wants to know why on earth I try and attempt to do everything at once and usually during the worst time possible...like before company comes. LOL! Maybe we are all just gluttons for punishment! :-) I think the tv looks great in that shelf and I'm sure you will figure out a solution for the dvr box...wish I had some clever idea for you. Hang in there!
Vanessa
I have felt that way myself lately, because I am working more due to vacations! I am doing well to keep the dishes washed and the laundry done!
those old TV's are HEAVY!!
Oh I thought my house was supposed to look like a bomb had gone off! All the time, I'm right there with you.
Debbie
LOL I know exactly what you mean by the domino effect!!! :D
wow that is a challenge,,it is like dominoes sometime,, life I mean,, thankfully they stand up again in perfect order,
I think sometimes when you are on a roll and you feel a time crunch you just start squeezing it all in. I hope you fnd a solution to your cabinet door closing. I noticed the photo of you on the about me. You are a very pretty lady! Good luck getting it all down.
I do love the new location of the tv. I feel guilty that I took up too much of your time over the weekend... I'm very selfish! I hope things will turn out ok!! You are the best!
That sounds like something I would do. I always jump from this to that and don't finish the first thing and don't get much done. Maybe you can remove the doors and add a skirt.
Ann what about putting the dvr cable box under the tv. I have it like that in my bedroom and it doesn't look bad at all because the box is black just like the tv. Martina
I think we all have those moments where we feel like we are juggling so many different things. At some point, if there are too many balls up in the air, they will all come falling down. Just take a deep breath and one thing at a time. None of that mess is going anywhere!
I hear you, We moved the lounge room around, but now I dont like it, but might leave it a few more days to see. Today the plan is to move the computer desks......and of course then there will be all the stuff from the desks moved everywhere too!
Ann- You're no different than I am! A multitude of things going on at once. I work best under pressure and I thrive on chaos! LOL
Just take a nice long breath and take each moment as it comes. You'll get through whatever you can, however you can. :-) Sue
I do the same thing, I guess I do better under pressure so I leave it go till then! Hope everthing works out for you, love your new tv and where you put it!
Oh I have my moments, believe me lol. Especially when im at work, which isn't always a good thing.
The TV looks great on that little shelf and im sure that now that you are back to work, you'll get back into the swing of things and everything will just roll right into place :)
Looks much better over there! Just breathe everything will fall into place and life will be back to a new normal!
Don't we all do that? Especially when a project starts off sounding easy to do. I guess we should all know better, but the end result teases us, lol. I love the new TV placement. Good luck with the cabinet/PVR. We have often had to cut the back off something to fit it too. Fingers crossed.
Some one once told me I'm a "high stacker"...in other words, a good multi tasker. Looks like we are birds of a feather.
I love the new look, the cabinet?
Well, I'll be waiting to see how it works out - I'm sure in the end...all will be fine
O' Ann I can so relate to this post! I thought this only happened to me.
Enjoy your day,
Gail
I don't know about you but, the kids slow my multitasking down in the summer. They need me every 30 minutes. I like to work uninterrupted, so it's a uphill working atmosphere.LOL
Sherry
Oh Ann, I have been there and done that with so many projects in my life. It always seems simple until we dive in. It sounds to me that you were multi-tasking quite well. It also sounds as if you might have to cut a hole in the sheet rock to push the DVR back for the doors to close.
Good Luck, sweetie,
Kathysue
You always appear to get twice as much done as I ever do! I'd say you do a grand job multi-tasking.
I got so much more done when I had four children at home.
Maybe I need to get pregnant again!
Don't we all do this? :-) It seems like if you attempt just 1 thing, it certainly dominoes into a jillion others. Don't be hard on yourself...just consider that you've joined "the" club!
Everything looks great. I hope that work is slow right now to give you a little break-in time.
Take good care ~
xo
Pat
Hi Ane, thanks so much for your instructions for my 'problem'. I'll try it. You are awesome!! Hugs, Pam
Oh Ann, life is like that isn't it. Nothing is as simple as it really should be.
The tv looks great in the bookcase, I'm sure you are enjoying the look much more.
Perhaps you could put the dvr on another shelf, or just remove the doors. You could add curtains in their place or leave it uncovered.
Just a thought.
Hugs, Cindy
Oh Ann, I know just what you mean. I am rearranging a room in my house for the grands to play in and much drama has occurred!
Not to talk you into spending more money....but a blue ray disc player will probably be smaller, and fit there...and it will play your DVD's too. Just a thought! They will probably go on sale soon for pre-holiday sales.
I've been there before and know what you mean. I hate it when that happens. About the DVR. Is that the thing that you point the remote at to change channels? Is there room for it to sit under the tv? Or could you take off the door?
Good luck. Let us know what you decide. :)
Hugs,
Babs
Hi Ann, your directions worked perfectly! Thanks so much for your help. I was able to do it for my tablescape today. Have a great day! Pamela
Ann,
I'd say you're a multi-tasker! I'm with you on little projects that turn into big projects. I like the new placement of the TV. Don't know how to help the DVR/door debacle. Is it the cord inlet that makes it a tad too wide/deep? The cord on our DVR sticks out about an inch from the back of the DVR. Does that make sense? Wondering if you can just cut a small into the wall inside the cabinet to tuck that cord connector thingy into. Anyhow, it looks great regardless!
You just described how I seem to do things these days!
I am waiting to hear how you will handle your DVR issue-
Laura
White Spray Paint
Oh Ann...we would be TROUBLE together. I can't tell you how many times I do stuff like this. Looks good though, but the time and work ahhhh...hope you are enjoying work.
You are a busy lady! You know, I did exactly the same thing with our DVR box!
