Home for the Holidays ~ 2011 The Entry
Welcome to my little entry.
My goal for choosing this red wallpaper
was to make a statement.
I figured this space needed a little personality
so why not?
I hung this wallpaper several years ago and I think I'm sort of over it.
Love it at Christmas...but the rest of the year it's a little much.
I'm ready to go lighter but I wanted to wait until after the holidays.
Over the years I have decorated the banister many different ways.
My favorite is mixing fresh greens with the faux.
The faux garland acts as a base for the fresh greens.
The only problem is that there is a heat register directly beneath the banister.
When that heat comes rolling out the fresh greens curl up and die.
Literally.
I finally gave up a few years ago and accepted defeat.
No fresh greens on the banister any more.
My new mat was a WUSLU deal of the day not too long ago.
Totally, completely love it.
I thought my Lenox dishes might lighten up this plate rack.
Fresh greens add a little texture.
As with any lighted Christmas decor,
the magic happens at night.
Here is my banister after dark.
I haven't joined a linky party for weeks.
I'm so excited to be joining:

Looks beautiful Ann! I like the wallpaper too...sure does look pretty. Cute job on the plate rack, and I want that mat!
Love your red wall paper, the sweet plate rack and banister all decked out for Christmas...BEAUTIFUL entry!!!
Hi Ann, your bannister looks very pretty with the lighted garland and the plate rack looks very nice too. Have a great week.
Ann,I love your entry and the wallpaper, but I understand wanting a change.
Your entry and banister look terrific. I would like to have fresh greens too, but everyone around her has sinus problems. Great rug. I saw it, but had no idea it would look so good!
Ann,
Your garland on your banister looks fabulous with that red wallpaper! And those little stockings are adorable on your plate rack. What a warm, welcoming entry!
just beautiful. i love the wallpaper... a great statement. (:
I like the wallpaper but I know how it is to live with something too long. Your banister looks fabulous...your greens do not look faux! And you don't have all those needles to sweep up! :-)
XO,
Jane
Your garland looks really nice on the banister. I like that it's a bit more airy than garland you usually see and has the berries. But what I really love is your plate rack with the Lenox Holly plates and little stockings and gift. Both are so fresh and pretty. Very pretty, Ann.
I love the red wallpaper too. It really is just perfect for the holidays! Your bannister looks wonderful too. I've always wanted to use fresh greens, but here in Southern California they dry up too quickly, so I understand your predicament. Lastly, the floor mat is fantastic too! As you can tell, I love it all!
Your entryway is beautiful! I love your banister & dare I say, I love the red wallpaper too?
Your entry is beautiful Ann. I love the red paper! The stairway is gorgeous.
Oh Ann! Your entry way is beautiful! I love it, the berries on the greenery is perfect. It's a shame that you can't have the paper up just for Christmas each year. It really is beautiful, but I can see you being over it after a few years.
Hugs, Cindy
Ann - love your bannister. Looks so festive and what a nice entry way. Also - love your front rug. Do you know what brand name it is so I can search and see if I can find one?
Ann- OH MY GOSH-It looks beautiful! I love how lush it looks and that garland could pass for real if you didn't tell us. I think the red wallpaper is perfect for this time of year...and I bet the white banister pops against it the rest of the year.
My daughter has the Lenox Christmas china too and loves it. I try to add something to it every Christmas for her.
I hope you are having a wonderful week so far- xo Diana
I love the greenery on the banister, but it is the red berries that pulls the whole thing together. Love it. I agree your front hall is a Christmas room.
That banister is so pretty,....I love that look!
Ann I love your entry and your wallpaper! Your banister looks beautiful with the garland and lights!! Martina
As always, your photos and posts make me want to visit your beautiful home! So cozy!! Merry Christmas, Ann!

So pretty, I love the look, especially with the lights! xo
I love it! I think your wallpaper is gorgeous and your railing looks beautiful!
be a sweetie,
shelia;)
So very beautiful! I never would have guessed that your garlands weren't real - they look wonderful. I know what you mean about tastes changing - but I'm sure loving the red right now with your Christmas decor! :-)
Hi Ann,
Oh my but your entryway looks so lovely. The faux greens actually look real and the red wallpaper is so Christmasee.
I'm in love with the bamboo mat too. I think French Freak carries those and I might just have to have one.
hugs
Sissie
Ann, this is completely fabulous! Looks so lovely... you always do such a great job!
It's a beautiful entryway! I love the wallpaper, but I guess I can relate to getting tired and wanting a change. After I took down my last wallpaper I swore I'd never put it up again! Your pattern is classic though and since I love red I love it!
I agree natural pine boughs can't be beat but they don't last. They also can leave sap and a mess to clean up so I've been sticking with the faux type! Love your banister- very pretty!
Your new floor mat is great- but in Michigan it would be ruined in no time from the winter weather!
It looks so pretty with all those Christmas colors everywhere. I love that little plate rack and how you accessorized it too.
Gorgeous! I love the banister and also the plate rack. You've put in a lot a little details and it shows. Is that a battery operated lighting on the garland? If not, you sure did a great job hiding cords.
How beautiful! I love the look of the wallpaper against your Christmas decor.
I loooove the red!
So welcoming :-)
Well I love Red and I love Wallpaper. So Bang! The Christmas decorations are beautiful and you are right, the red wall paper is a great background for them. Richard from My Old Historic House.
Everything looks so festive!
I love the mat too, what a great buy! I also love the wallpaper it does look lovely for Christmas and the banister is gorgeous especially at night!

Your entry is beautiful! I do love the wallpapaer but understand wanting to change. A few years ago I removed EVERY piece of wallpaper in the entire house!!!!!!!!!!!!! REALLY needed a BIG change:) Your banister is beautiful, I love seeing everyone's beautiful decor! Love the plate rack too! XO, Pinky
