Living Room Part 2

Back in August when I first wrote about my living/dining room update, I never dreamed it would take me this long. Seems anything I do these days takes longer than I expect. I think about things…make a few decisions…think about things some more. Finally all the thinking is finished and the decisions have been made.
If you missed it you can check out my dining room here. Now for the changes I made in the living room. Projects included:
Painting the walls.

New slipcovers for IKEA sofa and chair.
I chose the slipcovers from Comfort Works.

New pillow covers and lamps.

Purchased slipper chairs from Target.

Added a new lamp shade to an existing lamp
and made pillow covers from a yellow striped grain sack.

I made curtain panels from the same cream linen I used in the dining room. Even though I know it’s not what most decorators are doing now, I still like to link adjoining rooms with common fabrics. Call me crazy but I think it gives the rooms a pulled-together look.  I make design choices without worrying about mixing styles. Basically if I like it, I make it work. I think repeating patterns keeps everything from looking jumbled.
I already showed you this side of the room but thought I would throw in a new picture. The last time I didn’t have anything in my metal, tiered baskets. Thanks to all of your suggestions it is empty no more.
This was a WUSLU deal of the day.  Recently I had the opportunity to chat with the girls who came up with the concept of offering only one item per day. Yasmin and Nadia are not only savvy business women, they are as nice as can be.  WUSLU already has a spin-off company called Antique Farm House. I will be featuring more WUSLU items in upcoming posts.

Once I started filling the baskets
the whole thing just came to life.

I filled them with things I love. Blue mason jars, white stoneware pitchers, old spools of twine and these totally wonderful rag balls I found on my doorstep a few days ago. Jane, from Cottage at the Crossroads, sent them to me as a surprise. She saw them at an auction and knew they would be perfect in my baskets. I just adore them.

If you are still with me (my posts aren’t usually this long!) I’d like to close with these new pillow covers I made to add some punch to my slipcovered chair.

I used 5 different fabrics to mix things up a bit.
I think it’s just what the chair needed.

I’ll be back soon with before and after pics so you can see how different things really look. We’re still working on the stairs and hallway flooring. The red wallpaper is history…I can’t tell you how glad I was to see it go. Hopefully this new project won’t take as long as the last one! Have a wonderful week.

Everything looks so nice and fresh Ann and I particularly like the way you mixed the pillow fabrics. Do you happen to know the name / brand of the leopard {animal print} fabric used on one pillow? I've been looking for a blue / teal leopard fabric myself.

I just finished looking at the chairs available thru Target. I found some black and white ones that I really like.
Can you tell me if you are happy with your gold ones? And, are they comfortable and sturdy? I also like the color of yours. They have a sale going right now where you get a second chair for half price. I do need that other chair so it sounds like a good deal.
    Thanks so much….

This whole space is so fresh and inviting! You have done a lovely job of pulling it all together.

No, you are not crazy, regarding the relating of adjacent rooms. That is what I was taught in design school, and it is still the way to go.

My mother had those tables. I let my son have them and he gave them away! I wish I had them back. Ever want to strangle your kid?

  37. 37

The white walls and the white slips really open up the room and make the yellow pop! Love all the blue as accents, too. Are you not just enjoying all this great weather we're having? We are trying to plan a spring meet-up soon. Maybe for one of the May barn sales. Hope you can make it!

  49. 49

It really looks lovely. Yellow is my favorite color, and I love the way you've used it in the room. I agree with you on color. I have the same colors repeated in my house. I do vary a little, but I love the fact that I can move items from room to room, and they still work.

So...tell me what YOU think!
