Sharing Sunday ~ Adding Word Art To Your Posts

I’ve had a few comments recently
asking how I add the different fonts to my posts.
It’s very easy but it does take a little time.
To begin if you haven’t yet, Download Picasa.(More on Picasa at the end.)Then you need a high resolution white page.
Here is a link.
HR White Page
I got this from Centsational Girl.
After opening, right click the white page and save it to your computer.
I also put the link on my favorites bar so I can snag it easily.

Immediately after you have saved your white page
a link to the file should appear above your bottom tool bar.

Open the link by clicking on it.
It will look like the image below.
At the bottom is an
“Edit in Picasa” button.
Click on it.

This is what your screen will look
like when it’s open in Picasa.
Notice at the bottom it gives the size of your page.

To make it fit in a post you now need to crop.
Click on the crop link on the left.
Keep cropping your image until it is sized signicantly smaller.
My post width is 640 pixels.
I try to size my word art so the
width is between 300 and 400 pixels.
It will look like this.
Click Apply.
Here is your smaller cropped white page.
Time to add text.
Click on the text link on the left.
Here is where you get creative.
I downloaded my blog font and love using it here.
It’s Gravura but Picasa has loads of great fonts.
Play with sizing, move the text around and change the color.
When you are finished click Apply and this is what you will see.

Picasa provides a link to go directly to Picnik.
I don’t know what I’m going to do when they take Picnik away.
I’ll have to figure that out later.
In Picnik I recrop and add stickers.
My little bird is a sticker and I change the color to yellow.

All finished.
Save to Picasa.
Big yellow button on the right.

I upload my images to Google+ photos.
It used to be called Picasa Web Albums.
I then load them directly into my post.
The word art loads exactly like a photo.
To size it choose the original size option.
If you make it bigger or smaller it tends to get a bit blurry.
Here is what you get at the end.

As you do this and practice
you will get much quicker.
At first it was taking me FOREVER.
Google has made significant changes to Picasa.
They have added many features found in Picnik.
You can add borders in Picasa like this:
Here I started out with a background for scrapbooking instead of a white page.
They have not added the stickers to Picasa yet…
keeping my fingers crossed on that one.
I’ve seen several posts from bloggers about the editing programs
that are available so I won’t bore you with the same information.
Every blogger is different and has different editing priorities.
When Picnik is gone, it will just be a matter of finding (and learning) the right program.Let me know if you have any questions.
Happy Sunday!

Thank you Ann. I needed to know about White page. I do know about fonts. I switched to Photoscape for editing and love it. Pat at the Back Porch Musing uses it too. It is not difficult and is free and has wonderful features. It is not Mac compatible. If you have a Mac try BeFunky.

PhotoScape is my GO TO for most things…I've used it for years.

To change my fonts, I use the simple Blogger template page. There must 60 or more…from script to kooky to really cool. And, you can change them in nothing flat.

Thanks for your tutorial on this. I am so sick about losing Picnik and have tried several others…some pretty good but none comparing to Picnik.

WOW! I am so impressed, Ann. You made a wonderful tutorial. Will you let us know which new photo editing tool you end up choosing? I only learned about Picnik a few weeks ago and the day I signed up, they sent me a notice they were closing down! I haven't been back (my old brain doesn't want to strain to learn something that is going away. LOL). So, will the Picassa thing not do as much as Picnik did?? I am totally ignorant about the photo editing tools. Thanks so much for this wonderfully informative post. I know it was a lot of work! blessings ~ tanna
