Fun Pillows on the Front Porch

Welcome to my Summer 2012 front porch. I know I show you this on a regular basis, but it’s one of my favorite places to switch things up. It’s easy, inexpensive and you know what they say…you only have one chance to make a good first impression.

I pulled out my red Pier 1 cushions. I had to go down my basement with a flashlight to get these. (Still no power. Day 6 but who’s counting?)

I looked several places for a white lamp shade with red trim but had no luck finding one. I finally remembered I had this white lamp shade that had been my daughter’s. I picked up some giant red rick-rack to add as the trim. I stood in my sewing room this morning, sweating like mad, and realized I couldn’t plug in my glue gun to attach the trim. I will confess that a few choice words escaped my mouth. I grabbed a few straight pins and just pinned it on. Good enough for now.

The pillow covers are made from 2 fabrics I ordered from Fabric.com. The bird print is an outdoor fabric from Richloom called Ash Hill Garden. The reverse is also from Richloom and it’s called Rozelle Garden.

I am a regular visitor to Fabric.com and when I saw this I just couldn’t resist. I adore the birds.

When I went home today for this photo shoot I saw an AEP truck one street over. I am trying not to get my hopes up but wouldn’t it be wonderful if I could sleep at home tonight? Fingers crossed and all that.

See you soon!

  3. 3

  4. 4

I love your very very cute new pillows!!! Your porch always looks so nice and inviting :) :) OHHH geez day 6 on no power….I hope that comes back on soon! I do the same thing when we lose it, go into a room think i’m going to be able to do something and then I realize I can’t because we have no power! lol. It’s a 102 degrees here today…HOT HOT HOT! Happy day to you!! xo Holly

Your pillows are gorgeous, Ann, and these bird pillows are no exception. Where do you get your pillow forms and /or what is the filling, they look so nice and full?

  6. 6

I love the cheery pillows and rickrack on the lamp – and your cheery attitude (fishing the pillows out by flashlight – now that is plucky). I hope you get power soon. It is such a pain not to be in your own home.

  7. 7

Hi Ann. Your front porch looks beautiful. I love the fabrics your chose for your pillows – so summery. The red ric rac on the lampshade is a perfect touch. I hope you will get to sleep in your own bed tonight. Blessings, Pamela

mercy….6 days….I would be nuts….I have to be able to run my keurig, zap my oatmeal, watch HGTV and Grays Anatomy….I feel your pain!! Here is hoping for HOME tonight!

  9. 9

Sure hope you get to experience your own bed tonight – there is nothing like it. The pillows are great. Sally

Ann, the bird fabric is full of whimsy an dis so colorful and pretty. I do pray you get electricity by tonight. The birds are taking apart my live wreath and tearing my succulents so I had to take it off the door. Busy birds indeed. hugs, olive

  11. 11

It looks beautiful but I had to laugh about you wanting to use the glue gun in a power outage. We do things like that all the time when we lose power. It’s mind boggling how much we depend on electricity. Beautiful porch redo, Ann.

  12. 12

Love the idea of having the lamp on the front porch. Beautiful pillows! Reversable? how smart!

  13. 13

Your pillows really make your porch pop! Great first impression and I love your resourcefulness in pinning the rick rack on! I hope you get your powers soon…I would be miserable. I hope it isn’t as hot there by you as it is here!

    XO,
    Jane

Wow- Great pillows. Did you care to share the choice words you uttered? No?;>) You did a great job and I think the pins were the perfect solution to hold the rickrack in place. The porch is very bright and summery looking. xo Diana

I purchase from Fabric.com a lot too. Love there selection and prices. Hope you get your power back and can sleep in your own bed. It is amazing how many times you will try and turn on a light when there is no power. Just habit. I can’t believe you are still doing photo shoots with all that is happening. Your porch is just perfect and the bird fabric is so cheery. Prayers continued going your way!

  16. 16

I love how cheerful your pillows look in your chairs. The rick rack trim adds such a fun look to your white lamp shade too. I think you did good! Hope your power is on soon!

  17. 17

    Hi Ann,
Love your porch! Those pops of red with the other vibrant colors just make me smile. I’m sure visitors also smile as the walk up to your lovely home. You’ve been pinned! -_^ I’d love if you’d share your porch at my Frugal Treasures Tuesday party going on thru Sunday.

Hi, I’ve just popped over from Debbie’s Linky Party! I’m in love with your front porch! I have a small porch at our cottage in Maine and I’m going to give it a fresh look a.s.a.p.! I love how you’ve used the ric-rac! I love the bright pillows on the chairs and the pop of color with the cushions! I’m going to pin and subscribe to your blog!

  25. 25

Your front porch looks lovely and so inviting, Ann! Boy, we do depend on our electricity, don’t we? I have an old singer treadle machine that still works — if I was desperate enough…..lol! Hope your power is restored soon.

I hope by the time this comment is posted you have power! I really love the pillow fabric and the lamp with rick rack. It is so cheery it makes me smile!

  27. 27

Ann, your front porch is delightful! I bet you have fun changing it up all the time. I can’t believe you put all this together in the sweltering heat so you could like up your post! Good thinking to pin the rick-rack on the lamp. It was 101 in Michigan today. I hope you get your power on soon! You are a trooper! Love the bird fabric! I have the same lantern. Did you get it at Pier One?

Love, love, love your blog design. It’s fantastic! Did you do all this yourself?

When did you visit Cooperstown? How did you like the Inn? The area was beautiful but they needed some more shops that weren’t related to baseball. Upstate New York is beautiful with all the rolling hills.

  28. 28

Ann, I goofed up with my comment. I put your name in instead of mine! It was a long……day at work today! I better get off this computer.
