Red, White and Blue

Today is Day 5 (for some reason I feel as though that needs a capital letter) since the storm knocked out our power. I returned home this morning to water the flowers and hang our flag. I snapped some pics while I was there. This is our slamming screen door to the back porch.

I had the wreath already made for Ensign Kaitlyn’s party.

We aren’t celebrating anything today On Sutton Place. Our street is dark and really hot. The sound of generators breaks through the sounds of nature. It’s very hard to hear the birds chirping or the random bark of a dog.

I hung our flag on the front porch. It made me think of all the men and women in our armed forces who aren’t at home either. Any shred of self-pity or frustration I was feeling went immediately away. I had nothing to complain about.

Being away from home is like having a part of me missing. Even though I long to return, I am grateful my family is safe and comfortable.

Wishing you all a Happy Independence Day…stay safe. Many thanks to the families of our armed forces who are celebrating today without a loved one. I’ll close with a quote that I recently found. I think it says it all.

Ann, your attitude in all this is really amazing. Prayers for your quick return home, have a blessed week! xo

Your wreath and basket looks very nice and festive. I hope all is well and you are enjoying the holiday. Blessings, Pamela

What a fabulous paradigm shift, Ann. You are right of course – any hardships we would be enduring (we have no AC right now), pale in comparison. Thanks for the reminder. Happy 4th.

Ann, you are remarkable and I really appreciate your fine spirit. xoxo, olive

    Ann,

I should have come over here first before I hit the send button on my post today. You certainly have an attitude of gratitude. Yes, being hot and not having power pales in comparison to what other people have to endure. We still have our power but many in our county do not. This is a time to honor and remember all those who are currently serving our country and everyone who has gone before to preserve our freedom.

The photos of your back porch and wreath are amazing!

Hang in there Ann! I feel your pain and COMPLETELY get what you are going through. Although I am one of those loons who stay IN THE HOUSE even without electricity!! I know….crazy. Hope the power is restored soon. Happy 4th anyway.

Oh Ann, still without power, huh?

My sister up north on Catawba is w/o now still too.

My husband said today he wants to buy a generator too – but one of the expensive 3 feul kinds – they’re so much quieter.

    Hope yours comes on soon.

    Hugs.

I am so sorry to hear that you are still without power and having to live elsewhere for the time being. I know you want to get back to your beautiful home and sleep in your own bed again soon! I guess it is good to be grateful for what you have and that you DO have a house to go back to. Some people lost theirs in the storm. Your patriotic decorations look so good. I love the small wreath you have on your back screen door. Maybe when you get back into your house you can have a “coming home” party! .

Ann, so sorry your are not able to be in your home, I know how hard that is for you. I am not at my home either. Staying with my Mom for awhile until we get the business at hand done for my mom. Wishing you and yours a Happy 4th inspite of the heat and no power, Hang in there,
    xo Kathysue

I’m glad you’re making the best of it, Ann. I really hope you get your power restored soon!

I thought of you last night as we watched the news. I see that there are many crews of Canadian hydro workers down there working with the local power companies, and that made me happy. With all the awkward barriers going up between our countries it is nice to know, that in an emergency, the spirit of cooperation still exists and is valued.

Perfect quote and Ann I love that you are a glass half full kind of girl….still sucks to be without power and not in the comfort of your own home. But I hope it will be anytime soon….hang in there. Love your wreath…

My thoughts and prayers have been towards you since this stormy Ohio weather. I check the weather maps when we have alerts on TV and note your vicinity. We here in Norton have had sparing downpours and truly need the rain.
On a brighter side, your sweet potato vines are so beautiful, vibrant green and so full, they made me smile. Hope to soon hear you’re back on Sutton.

I am so glad for you that you have someplace else to be until you get your power back. I can’t imagine how terrible it would be to stuck in the house with no power for that long. My heart goes out to everyone there.

Your sweet potato vines look fab! I had one of those a few years back and it pretty much took over!

    Take care!!!

So...tell me what YOU think!
