From Merriam-Webster Dictionary:
barter – the direct exchange of goods or services without the use of money.
This just might be my new favorite word. That’s how I got this incredible, vintage, unbelievably beautiful enamelware pitcher.
I have wanted one FOREVER.
My friend, Mary Alice at Chateau Chic, has an Etsy shop where she sells all sorts of wonderful vintage items. I saw this coffee pot there one day and I just could not resist it. It was extremely affordable and I thought it might curb my desire for a pitcher.
Not so much.
But I love it and have placed it next to my blue enamelware pitcher for now. It will most likely move around until I find the absolute perfect place.
So…not long after that I got an email from Mary Alice asking if I could make her a grain sack table runner.
Oh my goodness. A million light bulbs when off in my head. They must have gone off in hers too because when I asked if she wanted to trade, or barter if you will, she jumped at the chance!
It ended up being the smoothest deal ever. The day before I was going to ship her runner, a big box arrived On Sutton Place.
Enclosed was my pitcher (adore it) and this darling little cup.
It was, I think, a deal made in heaven. We both got something vintage and one-of-a-kind, without any money changing hands.
Can’t ask for more than that.

Ann, that is a great way to do things. I wish everyone worked that way. We built our house ourselves and the only to projects we did sub out we ended up trading work instead for so no money changed hands. That’s the way the world used to work. That was a brilliant idea you had and it paid off, you got a lovely piece:)
Now that’s the way it should be – the more we deal in goods and services and less in cash – like they used to- the more we all win in the end.
That’s my way of thinkin anyway.
Good for you both, how delightful. Yay.
And your enamelware is awesome to behold.
Gorgeous and a win win for both of you! I wish I had something to barter with! Have a wonderful weekend!
How wonderful! I love your enamel pitcher and cute cup.
What a delightful post, Ann, and thank you so much for the shout out! The pitchers look lovely in your home the way you have them displayed.
Thanks again! Mary Alice
Such a darling pitcher and little cup! So cute!! Have a great weekend! xo Holly
It was a win win situation meant to be! Love how you have it displayed, so simply! Great friendship you have!
Bartering is such a wonderful old tradition. It’s nice to see two people doing it with complete happiness.
I think you are both the most lucky winners! What a great deal for both of you. You pitcher looks lovely on that little table. And it does not look lonely at all… the little cup is there to keep it company!
So happy for you!
I love it and the little cup, too. I love your blue one, too.
Fun, fun! I think you both came out lucky. :-)
I love bartering. I think it so much better than money changing hands. Instead it is something loved changing hands.

Gosh that WAS a good deal. Heck, that’s what people used to do in the old timey days. It’s nice to see it is still alive and kicking. Ha! I used to do that with my friend that lived across the street when I was little. We would make “trades” for things. I love your new “old” pitcher. You won’t believe that I once had one just like yours that was very old and very large. I took it to a consignment shop to sell because at the time I was decorating in a different style. Just shows that sometimes you really should hang on to things! Wish I had it back now.
Love your vintage enamel pitchers!! I’ve been on the lookout for some enamel pieces. I’ve done some trades with blogging friends and I agree it is a deal made in heaven. We actually got one of our yorkies that way…hubby did work for the breeder on their new dog grooming and boarding building…and they gave us our sweet little Chloe. They said that they loved to do the old fashion bartering, but I still think we got the better end of the deal.

I love that sort of win-win!
Like you, I have a thing for enamel ware. I collect the blue enamel from Denmark and now have a very large collection. The problem is how to display it. For now it decorates the laundry room, but I’d like it to adorn a garden house one day.
I love bartering. Artists do it all the time!
Great pieces!!!

Ann, I love your “new” enamelware pitcher and its little cup, and it looks like they were meant to be displayed on that table. I will be on the lookout for enamelware pitchers at the auction!
That is amazingly fun! I did that once too – traded one of my pillows for one I wanted! You really traded some fun stuff!
That’s attractive. Hope you are well.
Great trade…it’s wonderful when you can do that. It’s a win-win for both of you! Enjoy your weekend! ;)
I would call that a win win. You both got something beautiful without spending a dime, you cant do better than that.
I love enamel ware even though I don’t own much. I just reclaimed a table with an enamel top for my workspace. I love the enamel look.
What a wonderful swap! Works for me!
What a dreamy solution! It’s a great new addition. I must say, your blog is looking lovely. So fresh, pretty and clean lined. It’s a pleasure to navigate. I like it very much!
Love bartering . They are so beautiful .
What a great trade! I’m sure she was VERY pleased with her beautiful pillow, and your pitcher is fabulous! Love it! :)
That is a great deal! Bartering is the oldest form of shopping. I like the enamel ware you got. It looks great!
Ann ~ how wonderful! We barter all the time, but with neighbours and friends. It is a great way to obtain the things that you need completed or things that you are looking for without paying any money. I love to barter. Good for you and you finally have your much loved enamelware pitcher. Enjoy ;-)
I agree that it was meant to be. This makes me smile for you.
I love enamelware, so I have to agree with you. You both got a wonderful deal.
Hugs, Cindy
