Organization seems to have taken on a life of it’s own here in blogland. Post after post with ways to organize just about anything, including drawers. I have to admit that it’s the perfect way to start a new year.
Don’t get too excited though. My rather lame attempt at organization isn’t going to knock your socks off…but I’m so happy with it that I had to share. The photo below is how I shoot my food posts…which by the way I absolutely love. The problem is that I spend more time gathering everything I need than I do actually taking the pictures.
So I decided to take a drawer from the antique dresser and make it my food photo drawer.
I’ve been picking up random plates, cloth napkins, tea towels and ribbon to keep on hand. I had some in my kitchen, some in my sewing room and even some in the dining room.
I had to get a grip.
So…when I was finishing up the shoot for my Lemon Snowball Cookies, inspiration hit me. I gathered everything together and neatly filled a drawer.
I spread everything out so I could see what I had, yet there’s still plenty of room to grow.
Hopefully this little project will help me save time and energy…and it didn’t cost a dime.
Crazy weather again here in Ohio. All the snow is melting away and tomorrow it’s supposed to hit 60. Wishing you all a beautiful weekend!

Brilliant idea:) It takes me more time to prep for a photo than take the pics too. I think we have the same trip-pod. Do you like yours? I find my camera is to heavy for it. I have 4 and don’t like a one. That crazy weather is in my neck of the woods too. 50′s and thunderstorms. I don’t call that Winter at all.
Yes, January is the month for organizing as it seems. You did a wonderful job with the drawers. I tend to straighten up mine every chance I get, like when I’m puttering or on the phone. BTW, I copied the lemon snowball cookie recipe and hope to make them this weekend. I’ll let you know how they turn out!
Rain, snow and sleet predicted in Illinois tomorrow. Ugh!
XO,
Jane
I love all the colors in your drawer!! I had to mention that first!! I love an organized home and right now mine needs some organizing, but the bug has not hit yet, but I am sure in the next two weeks it will. I say start out small and work you way up!!
Happy Friday,
Kathysue
That is a great idea to have everything close at hand. Dressers in other rooms besides bedrooms are great for storage. We have rain today and our snow is melting. Tomorrow is expected to be 13C (55F).
I always wondered about setups for taking photos!
I need to work on improving mine – I never seem to get the lighting right.
Thanks for posting yours – I need to get some foamcore now!
Great idea Ann! I really need to start organizing my drawers and closets UGH!
Have a great weekend!
Wonderful idea Ann! I desperately need to do some organization here but I don’t have time!! Must make time eventually!
I spent three days this past week cleaning and organizing closets…next week? Who knows, but you’ve given me some more inspiration! ;)
Brilliant.
Great idea Ann, so easy peasy too. It was almost 70 here today. It’s almost scary!! Have a wonderful weekend.
That is a great idea. I’ve been collecting plates and bowls, especially plain ones or rustic ones to use for food photography. Though I can’t tell you how often I’m lucky to get a quick snap before we sit down to dinner – sans the styling. My plates and bowls are all near to where I take photos, but I don’t have much in the way of napkins etc so I need to get more of those.
Great idea, Ann. I have been working on organizing this last week or so, too. It feels good, doesn’t it? xo Diana
I loved seeing your photography studio. I have the same studio. ;) And what a great idea to gather everything together in a drawer.
Have a great weekend!
Hi Ann, Your food photos are amazing! What a great idea to put a drawer together. I love organizing too – you’ve inspired me to get cleaning a drawer or two of mine. Thanks!
Just another example of your absolute brilliance… it’s amazing to watch it unfold before my very eyes!
Awesome idea! Have a wonderful weekend!
Oh, Ann. I would expect nothing less from you than to be perfectly organized for your photo shoots! I love it! I should take some lessons from you. wishing you all the best in 2013!! blessings ~ tanna
FANTASTIC!!!!
The white foam core must be a help with light. I have so much trouble with either too much light or (as is the usual case) not enough.
Our weather has been unseasonably warm too. I hear it’s about to change though!
Inspiring, Ann. Isn’t it funny how these small things can make such a difference?!
So smart! And those lemon cookies really looked mouth watering!!! How convenient this setup will be. :)
Put the food on the floor to get the birds eye shot. Seriously. I’m clunking my head here. You see, I’m standing up on my kitchen counter trying to get that shot! Now I feel pretty dumb. Though, I do have a dog and I’m thinking he might try to eat my photo shoot …
:) Linda
What a great idea! I don’t have room to turn around in my kitchen and, like you, have always spent time searching. I don’t have a fancy camera or tripod so maybe I can at least get some better photos. Thanks for sharing!
