Welcome to my second installment for February’s Fresh Flavor…Orange. This dish is one I have never made and actually never even heard of, but when I was searching orange recipes it came up over and over again.
- One large box Cook and Serve Vanilla Pudding
- One large box orange Jello (I used sugar-free)
- 2 c. water
- 1 16 oz. Cool Whip (I used Lite)
- ½ bag mini marshmallows
- 1 can pineapple tidbits, partially drained
- 1 can mandarin oranges, partially drained
- Any size cans of fruit can be used depending on your preference. I used the large cans.
- Mix together pudding, jello and water in a sauce pan over medium heat.
- Bring to a boil stirring often.
- Remove from heat and pour into the bowl of a standing mixer.
- Refrigerate one hour.
- Beat on high 5 – 6 minutes until creamy.
- Fold in Cool Whip, marshmallows and fruit.
- Transfer to glass bowl or trifle dish. Chill before serving.
When I was finished adding all the ingredients to the jello/pudding mix it almost filled my Kitchen Aid bowl. It definitely makes enough to feed a crowd. It stayed very fresh in my refrigerator for a few days so you can make it the day before you need it. I’m always looking for “make ahead” dishes and this one is perfect.
This is one of those dishes that is refreshing and can be used for a salad or a dessert. I adored it. In fact…it was so good I found myself sneaking helpings until it was gone. I did share some of it. I took a container to my parents and gave a little to my neighbor but I am guilty of eating the rest.

This recipe reminds me of something you would take to a potluck dinner or picnic. I’m sure you could switch up the flavors and colors as well. I think it would be delicious with strawberry jello and fresh strawberries along with the pineapple. You could garnish it with blueberries and have a lovely patriotic addition to a 4th of July picnic. I have a feeling this Fluff recipe is going to start appearing at Drake family events. At least that way I won’t end up eating the whole thing myself!

This looks very delish! I have a recipe that is similar and my father in law always requests it when we get together. Thanks for sharing, I am always looking for new recipes to try.
My girls will be so proud of me when I tell them I have found an orange fluff! Thanks Ann.
This is what every older female relative made for all of our reunions and carry-in dinners after church and when the church cooked for funerals at the church. It must be a rural dish or midwest/southern thing! I knew I could count on it at every reunion from Texas to Missouri. I grew up in south central Kansas and my Grandma made it frequently! Glad you enjoyed it.
This is a Thanksgiving tradition in my husband’s family, but we use a slightly different variation, skipping the pudding and marshmallows. It’s a great recipe for kids who want to help in the kitchen because there’s really not much cooking or measuring involved. You’re right about amount it makes!
This recipe sounds very delicious Anne. Thanks for sharing. It sounds familiar to one that’s popular up here in Canada with pistachio pudding and pecans. I think I’d be dipping into it too. Pamela
This reminds me of many of the desserts we would enjoy at church potlucks growing up and now I absolutely HAVE to make this Ann! :-) It would be delicious and bring back memories which is the best kind of food in my book. Thanks for sharing it with us and your photos are GORGEOUS!
Vanessa
My girls would love this- I am saving the recipe. I have had a hard time getting her. Must be the blond in me. Your feed comes thru completely different now and I FINALLY realized I had to click on the word BLOG…duh…..I am back-blond and all- xo Diana
Thanks Ann for a colorful side dish for my Easter dinner menu.
For the past three weeks, my husband and I have been treating ourselves to oranges for an afternoon snack.
He says that it has kept us from the endless colds our young grandchildren have been sporting.
Thanks so much for the yummy recipe! Reminds me of a dish that was served in the “Garden Room” of a department store during the 70′s. My mom would take me there for lunch when she visited me in college. Can’t wait to try it!
My mom makes this dish for every family function and I have never tried it. Your photos look amazing are you using your new lens?
looks yummy-licious, good for a cool summer dessert!
Ann that looks so good!! Your photos are beautiful!
Our family loves Orange Fluff too! We have it and Watergate Salad every year for Thanksgiving and Christmas…such sweet additions to a meal!
Blessings,
Cindy
Ann, I have completely forgot about that dessert. My mother used to make it for our family reunion picnics every summer and we all loved it. It was a real treat but reserved for picnics. Not sure why but it seemed to make it even more special for all us kids. I think I will have to make this for my own children to give them a little taste of this treat from my own childhood. Thanks Ann. Great post.
Ann, I have a similar recipe that is FROZEN. I’m sure you could also freeze this recipe so you could keep it on hand…for snacks ;-)
I hate recipes where I want to eat the whole things myself. :)
Fondly,
Glenda
Hi Ann, I have to tell you this how much I love this dish! This is a very popular recipe where I live. You never go to a church covered-dish or family get together without seeing it. Love it, thanks for sharing.
Hope you are enjoying your Sunday.

This is just the kind of recipe I love and I can’t wait to try it.
Oh, Ann! Orange fluff is one of my favorites! My mom makes it for every holiday, and I try to hoard it for myself. I may have to surprise her and try to make it myself!
The dessert loks tastey, will have to give it a try. It was your Liberty Blue bowl that caught my eye, isn’t is amazing how those dishes make everything look so appealing!
Sounds delicious! I’ve pinned this and I hope to make this soon. Maybe one of the desserts for our Easter dinner? Thanks!
Debbie :)
OH, Yummy! We used to make it when I was little, but with cherry pie filling and pineapple. It was my absolute favorite… I bet it’s lovely with the oranges!
This reminds me of the jello salads that were so popular back in the 1970s. My mother’s favorite was an orange congealed salad with pineapple, pecans, and cream cheese. She still makes it, and I have made it a few times too, usually around the holidays. Those jello things can be surprisingly good!
