In the more than 3 years since I started my blog, nothing has changed and grown more than the necessity (and pressure) to participate in social media. Back in the day, all that was expected was to comment on other blogs and join the occasional linky party. Not any more. My first foray into the world of social media was my Facebook page followed closely by a Twitter account. I admit that I am still baffled by Twitter and have never really been active. I have tried but it’s just not for me. Anyway, then came Pinterest, Google+ and my latest obsession, Instagram.
There are days when I could literally spend hours on social media posts. Like everything in my life, I get behind and always seem to be catching up. (Or at least trying to.) Recently, Facebook made some algorithm changes (no idea what that means) and most of my followers stopped seeing my posts. From what I can tell, only about 5% of my page likes see me in their newsfeed. After months of frustration and wondering what to do, I decided to jump ship and dust off an old, unused Instagram account. It took just a few posts and I was hooked. It is fun and easy. My followers, all of them, see my posts in their feed. No one is mean, figuring out the hashtags is a blast and what could be easier than taking a picture with your phone?
Once I got the hang of regular Instagram posts, I ventured out into the world of Instagram apps. This is when the fun really started. Amazing everyone in my family, and truth be told even myself, I began to click my Instagram posts up a notch. Here are my favorite apps so far:

My favorite editing app is PicTapGo! It’s got filters that take your pics from drab to fab. Once you get a mix of filters you like, you can save them as a “recipe.” Very fun and extremely easy to use.
There are tons of collage apps out there but InstaCollage is my favorite and the easiest one I have found. Collages let you (obviously) combine a series of pics to help tell a story.

Occasionally it switches things up to add text to an image. Over makes it easy too. There are lots of different fonts and sizes. It’s also a simple way to add a watermark.

When bloggers discovered Waterlogue, every Instagram feed was flooded with watercolor images of photos. Things have calmed down a bit and now the occasional Waterlogue image is refreshing and they are always beautiful. Probably the most user-friendly app on the planet.
The first Flipagram I made was of our dog, Kelly and it was set to the song Everything by Michael Buble. Incredibly corny but my family loved it. Believe me if I can figure it out, anyone can. I highly recommend downloading it and playing around. It’s free too. One thing…Instagram limits the length to 15 seconds. (I think.) So to get a lot of photos through just increase the pace.
Other apps (that I’ve never tried but want to…)
Path On for iPhone : App that adds text with a twist. It lets you draw a path and then your text follows that path.
I probably over-used the word “fun” but in all honesty, that’s what Instagram is. I am still posting on all my other social media, including Facebook, so however you follow me, I’ll be there. If you have a favorite Instagram app, please share in the comments if you have time. I’m always looking for something “fun.”
