Even though fall has officially arrived, it sure doesn’t feel like it around here! I am longing for cooler temps so I can get out my sweatshirts and turn off the air conditioning. I can hardly wait to open my windows…there is nothing like the scent of a crisp autumn day. One way to bring that fresh, spicey scent into your home is to fake it with simmering potpourri complete with dried oranges. When I have a pot going on the stove, it absolutely smells like the real thing.

The first thing to do before making simmering potpourri is to make some dried oranges. I shared how to do this over on my eBay blog so I hope you take a minute and visit me there. It’s so easy and when you are finished, you’ll have a supply of orange slices to use for the potpourri as well as other crafts. One way I like to use dried oranges is to float a slice in a cup of tea or coffee. Not only is it lovely to look at, the taste is amazing.

Now for the potpourri. I have shared quite a list of possible ingredients HERE. You can basically combine any number of easy-to-get items to create your own signature simmering scent. My favorite things to use are fresh pine, cinnamon sticks and the dried oranges.
Later on, I’ll share some packaging suggestions so we can give our own simmering scent as as a gift this holiday season. For now, I’ve shown it in small canning jars on my eBay blog.

I love to share projects like this…simple and inexpensive to do but they pack a big punch. Thank you in advance for clicking over and visiting me on eBay. To put it simply, I am so grateful.
Before I go, I’d like to share one more thing. I’ve made a set of Fall Floral Alphabet Printables and it’s available now in my online shop. I know it might be a little late, but things seem to take longer to finish these day! I made a “GATHER” banner for my antique chest and it makes me smile every time I walk in my living room.

I’ll be back this week with more stencil projects and then some easy fall decor ideas. Everything will be simple to do and budget friendly. I’ll also (finally) be giving the details on the new sofa and chairs we purchased for the living room. I’ve lived with them for a few months and am happy to say that I think I made the right choice!
Thank you for stopping by and for your friendship.
