I love this time of year. Summer is still here, but fall is around the corner. The mornings are cool and crisp, but the afternoons are hot and sunny. Now is the time to think ahead, and update your fall wardrobe. It’s the best feeling to wake up on that first chilly day, and have a fun new outfit waiting in the closet.
Walmart has definitely upped their style game in recent months. Everything I am featuring today is well-made, the fabrics are soft and natural, and the styles are classic, yet on-trend. I’m featuring 4 outfits today that all mix and match, plus a classic double-breasted trench coat that was just made for fall. I’m sharing as many details as possible, including all my sizes, so let’s go!

Jeans and Plaid
As someone who wears casual and modest clothing, these jeans and plaid shirt are perfect. The plaid shirt is soft, and I love that the back is longer than the front. In the image below, I’m wearing a medium, because I found that most of the Time and Tru items ran big. I normally wear a large in tops, and all the tops featured here are mediums.
And the jeans? For someone who had given up on finding jeans that fit, these mid rise jeans are a miracle! I originally ordered my normal size, which is a 12, and the fit was great. The only issue was the length, which was too long. I loved the stretchy fabric, and the way they fit at the waist, so I didn’t want to give up. I decided to order a petite, hoping that the length would be OK. I sized up, and reordered in a 14 petite. They are amazing! I seriously haven’t owned a pair of real jeans, with a zipper, for at least ten years. I feel really good in them, which at the end of the day, is the most important thing.
The little fleece jacket by Free Assembly is cozy, yet lightweight, and runs true to size. I originally ordered a medium, but exchanged it for a large, which is roomier and a little longer. The collar folds down neatly, and the pockets are big and functional. It’s also available in off-white with brown trim, and navy blue.
Cinnamon and Feminine
Besides the jeans, my favorite piece from this collection is the cinnamon blouse featured below. (Color on the website says orange brick, but it looks exactly like cinnamon!) I love the feminine gathers at the neck and wrists, and the little white buttons make it so easy to slip on and off. Wear it with jeans and mules for everyday, and pair it with dressy black pants for evening.
The handbag is roomy, and the wide handle is easy on the arm or shoulder. I went up a half size in the woven mules because of the pointed toe. They are easy to walk in, and the toe bed is wide enough so there’s no pinching!

A Monochromatic Look
Time and Tru named the delicious color of green featured in the pieces above “sea turtle,” and like the jeans, these utility pants fit like a dream. They are cropped, but because of my short legs, they are full length on me. (I’m wearing my normal size 12.) The fabric is stretchy, but heavy enough to hang nicely. They also come in blue denim, black denim, and a yummy color called chocolate fudge.
I love the slimming effect of a monochromatic outfit, so pairing the green pants with the green cardigan sweater worked beautifully for me. The ribbed sweater, in a medium, is light and comfortable.
Checks and Sneakers
For this outfit, the mid rise jeans are back, and I paired them with a super casual checked button-up hoodie in a size medium. The sneakers have a slight platform, are very cushy, and run true-to-size.
The short trench coat featured below is from Free Assembly, and it makes me stand taller, because that’s how good I feel in it. (I’m wearing a medium.) The dark khaki color is great for year-round wear, but it’s especially perfect for fall.
Belted Coat Tip
If you aren’t a fan of coats with belts, but love this cute find, you are in luck! I personally don’t like belts, but I loved this coat, and was able to make it work by removing the belt loops. They aren’t sewn into the side seams, so all you need is a seam ripper, or a tiny pair of scissors, and in about 5 minutes the belt loops can be removed.
Notes
- If you like something, and are considering placing an order, don’t wait! Items are selling out quickly.
- The brown handbag is currently sold out, but it’s available in beige and black. Check the link in a few days because chances are the brown will be restocked. I’ve seen that happen so many times recently. This handbag is a great alternative, and it’s available in cognac brown.
- The same goes for the double-breasted coat. Some sizes are sold out, but I’m confident they will be available soon. (This belted barn jacket is super cute, and this snap front shacket in sea turtle is the perfect fall accessory.)
- When I wrote this post a few days ago, everything featured here was in stock. I will keep an eye on the Walmart website, and let my email subscribers know when items become available. Not an email subscriber? Join me HERE.
