There are lots of things I love about Fall. The weather, the colors, the food. One of the things I love most are the flowers. Mums and sunflowers to be exact. Decorating with sunflowers is not only easy, it adds amazing color to any room. They are a happy flower. When you look at them, don’t you see a smiley face?
I recently realized that I had these 3 vintage Ball jars in graduated sizes. I had completely forgotten I had the big one until I came across it in my basement. It’s amazing what I can unearth down there when I get to looking! I love the way the blue jars make the yellow sunflowers just pop. I wish I could say that I grew these sunflowers myself, but I can’t. I got them at my grocery store…and they are beautiful.
If I change the water every few days and cut off the tips of the stems, these sunflowers will last for over a week. Sunflowers have a tendency to make the water murky. I usually try to put them in a container that you can’t see through…but just the look of them in these blue jars makes it worth the extra effort to change out the water.
Sometimes no matter how hard you try, every bloom won’t make it home in one piece. If you have a bloom that gets broken off its stem, just float it in a bowl of water. It will last for days because the water source is so close to the bloom. This also works for blooms that are so curved they won’t stand up in your container. Occasionally you will get one that basically dumps itself out. Don’t throw it away…just chop it off and plop it in a bowl.
Sunflowers rank right up there with hydrangeas in terms of “showiness.” (Not sure that’s a word.) They are the perfect flower for a foyer arrangement because they are so welcoming and cheerful.
Here I opted for a silver pitcher and stuffed it full of sunflowers. I just kept putting them in until they couldn’t move around or try to tip out. That’s one of the secrets to decorating with sunflowers. More blooms means less tipping about.
I had just a few blooms left over so I used my little IKEA enamelware pitcher, added some mint, and the corner of my kitchen counter was transformed.
Since my counter space is sadly limited, I usually reserve it all for functional kitchen decor. If it doesn’t serve a purpose, it usually doesn’t sit on my counter. So I added the mint to the vase of sunflowers to make something beautiful and functional at the same time. The mint is nice to have inside. I pluck some off and throw it in my water or Diet Coke every day.
Thank you for stopping by today and sharing my sunflower obsession. The next time you are at your grocery store, check the flower section to see if there are any sunflowers. If there are…bring some home. I promise they will brighten your day. See you soon…
Fabulous idea!
They do looks so pretty and cheerful, Ann. I am loving your pops of yellow – my favorite color.
I very much enjoy hearing from you, and look forward to your posts to see just what you are up to.
Love the sun flowers. They look especially lovely with all your blue and yellow accent. Don’t you just love fall? It’s my favorite time of year.
They look so nice there in your home. Sunflowers are happy flowers.

Sunflowers just brighten up a room. I love how you displayed them!
My mother absolutely LOVES sunflowers. She finally has a front deck, going right across her house, and I have offered to put in a flower garden along the front of it next Spring. Guess what she asked me to fill it with? You guessed it. Sunflowers, and lots of them, lol!
Hi Ann, They are cheerful flowers and they look especially cheerful in those blue jars. Thanks for the inspiration!
I love all of your posts and look forward to each one. This one, however, is my absolute favorite (so far). More inspirational ideas for me to bring into my home. You are the just the best! Thank you. Sending blessings to you ~~~
All of it is lovely! I have always thought sunflowers were a pop of “HAPPY”.
Ann,
Love what you did with the sunflowers. I really like the head floating in bowl alone. Like them in that silver trophy too! They are such happy flowers and I am a huge mum fan! Have a great day!

Hi Ann,
Sunflowers are so pretty and really brighten a room! I love your silver pitcher and adding the mint was a fun and beautiful idea! I have the same Ikea pitcher, I need to try that. I am behind on blog reading. I have had a busy summer. We have a new grandson -our first! I spent a month in SoCal snuggling with him and enjoying our 2 year old granddaughter (his sister) too! So much fun, but good to be back home too:)

I love sunflowers! Your displays look beautiful Ann…love them in the Ball jars!
I love all of the ways you are displaying your pretty sunflowers. Great tip, about floating one if it breaks off!
Your silver pitcher holding sunflowers would definitely bring a smile to my face as I enter your home. Lovely, simply lovely! I am on the hunt for a silver/silver plated pitcher this fall.
Hi Ann! How beautiful! I love sunflowers and your vignettes are so pretty – always,
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
Just gorgeous! I, too am obsessed with sunflowers (for a majority of my life!) I can’t think of any other type of flower that can light up a room like sunflowers.
Lovely pictures of beautiful flowers! I think flowers always add a little *happy* to a room – especially sunflowers as we approach the fall season.
Looks great – fresh and fun!
Your sunflowers look beautiful displayed in those blue jars. They have such a country look that way. I have always used the fake ones, but the live ones are so much prettier. Thanks for the good tips!
Beautiful! I especially like the sunflowers in the blue jars.
Ohh I just love sunflowers. Love the sunflowers and mint idea, just beautiful Ann!
