The very first sign of fall happened this week. We had a couple of dark, rainy days, and it was chilly enough to reach for a sweatshirt. It may have been my imagination, but I swear I could smell fall in the air. So…I thought it was time to share a DIY fall decor plan, and get the ball rolling.

DIY Fall Decor Plan

Fall on the Porch

  • I never think it’s necessary to reinvent the wheel. I am using the same navy blue planters I used for the summer. You can get all the details on them {HERE.} Since I didn’t have to spend money on new planters, I was able to splurge on a new layered doormat set. It hasn’t arrived, so I can’t show it just yet…but I can’t wait to get it!
  • Mums will go in the planters, with some ivy left over from summer planters.
  • There will be new pillows on the rockers, plus some yet-to-be-decided accessories. The only thing I know for sure is that white pumpkins will be involved.
  • Last but not least, a new wreath. I fell in love with this wreath online, but didn’t want to spend that much money. So I went looking, and found this wreath at Hobby Lobby. With a few small tweaks, I think it will be beautiful, and look very much like the pricier one from Williams-Sonoma. I also found a similar wreath that’s available at Walmart, and it’s in the shopping widget below.

Thrifty seasonal decorating tip: simply add the colors of the season to your existing decor. In my case, even though I have a lot of neutrals, I also strongly feature shades of blue. Those blues are all staying right where they are, and I’m adding russet and gold.

DIY Fall Decor Inside

  • I’m not sure about the entry. I would love a show-stopping natural arrangement for the little chest. Hopefully inspiration will hit soon!
  • For the living room: I mentioned in the last edition of Wednesday Weekly Wish List that I want to update the plate wall, and add some fall color. The new plates have arrived, and they are perfect. The shelves will get pumpkins and fresh natural elements. I got some new denim pillow covers from the Gap Home line at Walmart. I’m sure my dough bowl will make an appearance. I want lots of seeded eucalyptus, maybe some lamb’s ear, and candles that smell like cinnamon!
  • I’m working on a brand new and exclusive set of fall printables for OSP readers. I want to frame a set for myself, and use them either in the living room or dining room…so stay tuned for that!

So…this should definitely be enough to get us started. I totally understand if you aren’t ready to let go of summer just yet. Truth be told, I’m not ready either…but this will at least get your creative juices flowing!

Until next time…

Thank you for the fall inspiration. I am ready to put my shell decor away and transition into fall. I guess I have a couple of weeks yet.
