Included in HAVE WANT WATCH WEAR No. 4: Recent favorite purchases, what I wish I had, what I’m watching now, and easy, affordable fashion items.
Welcome to the 4th edition of HAVE WANT WATCH WEAR! For anyone who is new and wondering what in the heck this is…it’s a series I started that’s formatted in four parts.
- HAVE: I share items, both personal and for the home, that I own and love.
- WANT: This category features things I’ve seen that I would love to have.
- WATCH: As some of you know, I enjoy watching TV, so I share what I’m watching now and what will be coming.
- WEAR: I am definitely NOT a fashionista, in fact just the thought of that makes me laugh, but I share anything I’ve purchased that I think you might like.
So let’s get started!

We just returned from a family trip to Disney World, and if it weren’t for these shoes, I’m not sure I would have made it! I was worried about the walking, but these shoes saved the day. The toe area is long (in case you have bunions,) there is great ankle support, and the sole has just the right amount of cushion. I liked them so much, I got them in light and dark gray. Just click the image to shop. (Make sure to click the different color boxes to see the size selection.)
- CLICK {HERE} FOR THE DARK GRAY.
- {THIS STYLE} IS SUPER CUTE TOO.
When the cold weather arrives, so does the dry air. I wanted a humidifier last year, but never made the effort to research them. My son and daughter-in-law recommended the one pictured below, so I gave it a try. It is wonderful and I’m mad at myself for not buying it last year! I use distilled water and we run it every night in our bedroom. There are time and strength settings so you can get just the right amount of humidity. Click the image below to take a look.
My dad got this lamp for extra light beside his chair. It’s super cute and takes up very little room. It comes in three different finishes and is easy on the budget. Click the image to shop.
A few more of my favorite things:
I’ve talked many times about updating my kitchen…but I have not been able to make it happen. To attempt a complete kitchen renovation not only seems overwhelming, but very expensive. When I was setting goals for 2019, the first thing that came to mind was our kitchen. I took a few days and thought hard about how to update our kitchen without spending a fortune. This is what I came up with!
- I made a list of features that I absolutely hate and then I made a list of features that I felt I could live with. There were only two things on the hate list: the counters and the functionality of the cabinets.
- I have nice appliances and lovely flooring. I don’t mind the look of the cabinets, but they function poorly due to shelves that don’t adjust and shallow depth.
- So that left me with two problems to solve. I needed to make the cabinets more functional, and I needed to save some money for new counters. Included will also be a new sink. (I would like to use the existing faucet if it will work with the new sink.)
- I’ve already started saving. I am determined to have quartz counters installed later this year.
- I also spent a ton of time measuring and shopping for organizational tools for the cabinets. I am giving them a complete overhaul and I’ll be sharing everything in the coming weeks. Every cabinet will be emptied, cleaned, and reorganized.
- Honestly, I am so excited about this and I feel this is the right decision for us. I know we would never get the cost of a new kitchen out of this house when (and if) it’s sold. The day I say goodbye to our tile counters may just go down in history as the best day of my life!
So…stay tuned for kitchen organization solutions that anyone can use. I gave myself a budget of $500.00 and have stayed well under so far. That may seem like a bunch of money, but compared to new cabinets, it’s a drop in the bucket!
My TV show choices have been all over the place lately. All of the shows I watch on network TV have been on hiatus since before Christmas. They just came back in the past week or two. So, that meant I had to dig down into the Amazon and Netflix coffers to find something to watch. Here is a list of oldies but goodies that I have watched in the past few months and totally enjoyed.
The following are all available on Amazon Prime Video:
- Stepmom (Starz)
- Ice Castles 1978: Yes…it’s the one with Robby Benson! I actually remember going to the theater to see this back in the day. It’s really dated, but I loved watching it.
- Ice Castles 2010: This is the remake. I wanted to see if they followed the original story line and they did a great job.
- Return to Me
- Regarding Henry
- Jerry Maguire
These are on Netflix:
- Mona Lisa Smile
- Julie & Julia
- The Other Boleyn Girl
- P. S. I Love You
- Cold Mountain
- Sommersby
- Secretariat
The Downton Abbey movie has a definite U.S. release date. It’s September 20, 2019. There isn’t an official trailer yet, but they released what they are calling a teaser trailer. You can see it {HERE.} I am counting the days! Also coming is another adaptation of Little Women that’s being released on Christmas Day, 2019. It stars Meryl Streep, Saoirse Ronan, Laura Dern, Emma Watson, and more. Looking forward to that too!
(1) Luxe Supima Tunic (2) Tencel Indigo Long Tunic (3) Cotton Stretch White Tunic (4) Shirttail Tee (5) Pima Leggings (6) Indigo Knit Leggings (7) Zip Front Hoodie (8) Plaid Square Scarf
All of the items above are from J.Jill, very basic, comfortable, and practical. The pima leggings are buy two, get 20% off. The indigo knit leggings (which I love) are $20 off the full price. That’s it for HAVE WANT WATCH WEAR No. 4. I hope you have all had a productive January. With the arrival of February, we’re just that much closer to spring. Until next time…
Thank you for sharing. I love this type of post.
Oh, that’s a beautiful scarf! Glad you are able to make your kitchen work for you. I’ve added cabinets to mine, and then just put stuff into them. Sometimes it seems like I should empty ALL the cabinets and then decide what goes where….. but they are mostly organized according to what fits. I’ll look forward to seeing your new countertops when you get them!
Ann, I don’t know which feature I like most, this one or your recipes (really do-able recipes). I’ve purchased two items at your suggestion, a food processor and a planter. It’s great to know you are doing such detailed and honest work in your recommendations. I feel the same way about my kitchen, so I’m watching carefully what you do. I’m going to jump on the lazy Susan idea! Thank you so much.
Love-HAVE WANT WATCH WEAR!! The movies you listed are some of my favorites and I had forgotten about some of them. Somersby is one of my FAVORITE movies. Now that you reminded me about it I’m going to watch it this weekend.
I have a son getting ready to graduate and go off to college and our daughter is a sophomore. I don’t like to think about being an empty nester but I know if they are ready then we’ve done our job as parents. God will see us all through these changes and next stages of life!
Thanks for being so genuine and for sharing your home with us ! You inspire me to become a blogger- something I feel is so out of reach.
Have a great week!
I just received the floor lamp in black and it is one mighty efficient and good looking little lamp! The on/off button is even slightly illuminated so you can see it in the dark. Awesome feature! Hope your Dad is enjoying his lamp too!
He is…and thanks for letting us know you like the black one!
I just thoroughly enjoyed this post! I’m always looking for these exact things in the form of recommendations! I am more likely to act on something with a good review or reccommendation.
My husband and I just finished “Poldark” on Amazon Prime. It was wonderful and highly recommend it. We are in our mid 50’s – not sure a younger crowd would like it as much.
I enjoy your blog so much. I am looking forward to your ideas on kitchen organization. I have printed out some of your printables and am very grateful that you share you talents with us.
Becky
P.S. Also, thanks for the heads up on the Downton Abbey movie and the remake of Little Women. I saw Saoirse Ronan in the movie Mary Queen of Scots and she was amazing. I’m sure she’ll be great in Little Women, too.
Can’t wait to see what happens in your kitchen update! Especially how you organize your cabinets differently. Mine are chocked full and some things are inaccessible so I don’t use them like I’d like to.
Love the tunic shirts in the clothing section, but too expensive for my budget. But the shoes–I want them! They look SO comfy.
Well, happy reorganizing! And if you’re in a Winter climate, stay warm!
I’ve been watching When Calls the Heart! It’s so good! Netflix!
Ann,
I just took a day to go through my endless emails and made some tough decisions to unsubscribe to many. There are so many great blogs out there, it was hard. But I couldn’t bring myself to unsubscribe from OSP. I enjoy it so much! Thank you for making a sweet, beautiful, practical, organized, yummy, lovely, peaceful place to come to in the midst of my busy week.
~Marcy
Oh Marcy…this made my day. Thank you so much for writing and for keeping me! I love my email subscribers and value each one of you. You are the best!
I also have the same type of counter top as you and have wanted to replace it. The problem I have is the back splash which is also the same tile and goes up in places to the ceiling. I notice you also have tile on the back splash. My question is, are you tearing out that also and if not how will you prevent damage to the tiles when removing the counter-top? I enjoyed your articles today. Thanks for all your information.
Hi Karen…I will have to replace the back splash too. I didn’t think of that when I was writing the post. My tile is old and I’m sure there would be no way to save the back splash during the demo. One more thing to consider!
Thanks for your recommendation on the shoes! I have been looking for some stretchy , comfortable tennis shoes. I hope you had a great time at Disney World, too. We are undertaking some renovations this year but I don’t know if there will be any money for a kitchen. Sigh!
I meant to say buying not begging. Sorry.
Anne, I am not quite sure how begging and sponsorship works..so pardon me if this question is naive, but…..Can’t you call around and see if someone who sells quartz or granite would like to give you a deal for showing your kitchen on your blog? Just curious.
Hi Nina! Yes, I definitely could try to work with a sponsor…and I may do that. Brands are looking more at social media now rather than a website. I have a very strong website with loyal readers, but my social media following is small. I just need to get up my nerve and give it a go!
I think you should get on twitter and the like not just for sponsors either. Twitter and instagram are all about the visual. And you have that area more than covered. You’d be great. Plus the readers that you have are a growing group and becoming more interesting to marketers every day. But I understand that successful blogs are a lot of work on their own. Good luck!
That blue plaid scarf made my heart flutter. So beautiful. And I agree that once you replace your countertops and sink you will be happy with your kitchen. A full renovation does cost a lot of money and takes your kitchen out of commission for a long time. New countertops can be installed in a day and will make the rest look new.
Excellent post, Ann. It’s great to read about updating a kitchen without totally gutting it and spending more money than most of us will ever have! I just painted our very dated cabinets, and although they are far from perfect, they are bright and cheery, which is what I very much wanted (we went from 1979 dark oak to a creamy white). The insides don’t function well, so I’m interested in what you do with yours. My next wish is new counters (ours are old, chipped laminate, also from 1979), and I’m hoping to afford quartz some day. Can’t wait to hear about yours!
I don’t blame you for wanting to replace the ceramic tile counter as I have had that in another kitchen of mine. I just had a quartz countertop put on my bath vanity. They cut it from a remnant and it was still over $500 and that was at my tile guy’s cost and it was plain white. That included the undercount sink which was only $85. Quartz is in so it’s pricey. I’d suggest getting a couple of quotes and looking at samples to see how much it’s going to run you. You will find granite cheaper now and there are some very nice ones in white if that’s the look you want. Good luck! And thanks for this post and the tips. Always enjoy reading them.
I love this series, mostly because we have such similar taste!! I have and use many of the same items. I agree with all your choices and can’t wait to see what you do with your kitchen. I’m always on the look out for better storage ideas. When I semi retired a few years ago it was the first thing I tackled, but I think it’s a never ending battle with 2 people who love to cook and bake. My husband doesn’t always put things back the way I like them. I shouldn’t complain too much since he’s a great cook😉
Loved this post, Ann. Being in and out of blogland the past year or so I didn’t realize this HAVE WANT WATCH WEAR thing was going on. Is this your own “thing” or are there other bloggers doing it, too?
I watched the Downton Abbey trailer here. I can’t wait!!!! Also, I am looking forward to The Little Women movie.
Looks like you are getting things organized and quartz is what I want in my next house for countertops.
Lovely post!!! xo Diana ps–Didn’t you love Sommersby? I have watched it a few times over the years.
Always enjoy your blog & new fields sound interesting. Thanks!
I love when you post these items; always great ideas! Frankly, I love your counters; but I know what it’s like to want something prettier than what I have. I hope you get the counter tops you want. Looking forward to your storage ideas. We have a small kitchen, and I need that kind of help.
I love your countertops! I wish I had them instead of the blue laminate that I have. Yes, they were ‘in’ at the time I chose them. 1990, you think I’m due for an update. I’ll have to say, though, they are in excellent shape. I believe in cutting boards and trivets or hot pads…always.
Thank you so much for your Have Watch Want Wear articles. Always full of fun and helpful ideas.
I’m excited for you and to see what you do with your kitchen. When you get new quartz counter tops, you may want to hug them like I did ! They are so beautiful, you won’t know how you lived without them.I went with white that has veining and looks like marble, so light and airy with white cabinets.Good luck and thanks for your post today.
I’m so with you on tile counters – the day we got rid of them for wood counters in our last kitchen was a very happy day for me. 😀 If you cook much or bake at all they are terrible to get clean- not sure how they ever became the thing. Happy for you that you found a way to make a kitchen upgrade work for you!
Hi Ann,
Happy 2019! Thank you for new Have Want Watch Wear, my heart went a flutter to see what’s on your radar. I LOVE your style, cooking, and decorating ideas so much, you are the first blog I found a few years ago and still one of my favs! Many of your printables find homes in my house through the year, esp the Xmas ones, I love your wreath ideas and I went out couple of years ago and looked hard for a copy of the 3 tier blue metal stand to copy some of your vignettes, do you still use that? Just wanted to say I enjoy all that you do and appreciate it tons, all the best!
I always enjoy your Want Wear Have series and refer back to them often. I wear J.Jill Wearever black yoga pants all the time as I am too timid to wear the J Jill leggings I purchased—–one of these days I will. I love your classic relaxed, style. Last night I made your latest Vegetable Soup recipe and shared some with my neighbor. Also made an old cornbread recipe that was featured on a Biquick box a long time ago. So gooooood!
I will be sad to see your cute counters go but I know tile is a nightmare to work on and clean. I’ve always loved your kitchen and excited to see your updates.
Wonderful post. I so enjoy all your ideas and try many of them. Love the garden stool and the vanilla. Thank you for sharing such great ideas.
Love reading this series. Thank you! Really looking forward to your kitchen reorganization posts.
Good morning Anne,
I love your counter tops. I’m really not a fan of tiled counters, but yours are so pretty.
Maybe because they are blue & white and so clean, but I get why you would want a solid surface.
I also love your style in clothes. I live in long tops and leggings.
My sister can not believe how many leggings I own. They are so comfortable.
Have a wonderful Sunday 😊
Rose
I’m excited to see your choices for your kitchen!! So glad you’re going to take on this challenge for 2019! I want to update my kitchen too and will live vicariously through you!!!😉😉😊
We have a couple of things in common. I love this vanilla extract too and have been buying it for years. I also have several pieces of JJill although I often find them overpriced and wait for sales.
Looking forward to seeing what you do with your kitchen.
Love this series! Can’t wait to see how your kitchen turns out. Thx for sharing your thoughts.
I look forward to this list. Thank you for sharing your tv recommendations, they are always winners! I print them out and keep them with my magazines. Can’t wait to try the lamp. It is exactly what I have been looking for. I have a reading spot that doesn’t have room for a table and lamp. I think your suggestion is going to be perfect!
Can’t go wring with anything from JJill. Love that store.
Really enjoy your HaveWantWatchWear posts. We gutted our 1979 kitchen fourteen years ago. Went with granite countertops, my BIG splurge. I smile every day in my kitchen. New paint color for 2019 is scheduled. I know whatever updates you decide, your kitchen will make you smile too. Really frigid weather hitting us here in Ohio this week. Stay cozy and warm. We have used our fireplace almost every evening the past week.
