Easy lavender lantern arrangement idea for a mantel or vignette. Perfect for spring and summer decor. Budget-friendly project that uses faux or fresh lavender.
Welcome to the second installment of Seasonal Simplicity and a lovely collection of spring-inspired mantels and vignettes. Our home does have a fireplace mantel, but it has a gigantic television over it so I don’t decorate it. I have tried, but anything I put on the mantel blocks the bottom part of the TV and it’s not worth having an annoyed husband. So…I’m sharing a very simple project that combines two of my favorite things. Lavender and lanterns. For this lavender lantern arrangement, I used my Hearth & Hand galvanized lanterns and just a few other items.
I’ve always thought, since I first got them, that these lanterns looked like tiny greenhouses. With that in mind, I wanted little pots of live plants to place in the lanterns. I had my heart set on lavender, but couldn’t find any plants. I looked every place I could think of that might have them.
Since I struck out with the fresh lavender, I decided to use the next best thing. Faux flowers have come a long way and I found some lavender bushes that look almost real. All sources are listed at the end of the post.
I used the galvanized pots from the herb garden set I bought last year. Using wire cutters, I cut the stems from each lavender bush. To assemble the pots, I just dropped in a styrofoam ball and placed the lavender stems all around it. The ball held the stems in place.
When both pots were finished, all that was left to do was to place them in the lanterns. Since Easter is only a few weeks away, I added a couple of bunnies and that was it.
A set of these lavender lantern arrangements is a very simple, symmetrical way to add a little spring to your mantel, any dresser, a hallway table or sofa table. This idea can be adapted to fit your own decor style. Any type of lantern will work…and use any sort of pot that you have on hand. Fill the pot with your favorite real or faux flowers and you have a special arrangement that is the perfect reflection of you.
