New Series: Wednesday Weekly Wish List

Wednesday Weekly Wishlist

Welcome to the Wednesday Weekly Wish List…a place to come for our favorite things, bits of wisdom, recommendations, and so much more. You all have been so wonderful and receptive in regards to our Saturday series, Home Style Saturdays. We wanted to come up with another series that would resonate with our readers, and we hope this is a perfect fit. (We think it is!) I’m joining Lory from Designthusiasm, and Yvonne from StoneGable, and each week the three of us will provide nuggets of information and inspiration from various sources. We’ll share our favorite shows, recipes, wardrobe choices, tips, tricks, and the list goes on. If there is ever anything you want us to scout out, just leave a comment, or email me at ann@onsuttonplace.com. So let’s go!

1. Looking for your next television series? This new 7 episode series on HBO is awesome! It’s the ultimate whodunit with impeccable character development and a riveting plot. You just may watch the whole thing in a weekend!

2. Are you into historical fiction? I just finished this book and I loved it! It has everything from intrigue to romance to strong female heroines. It’s fast-paced, suspense-filled and takes place, in large part, in France.

3. My latest fashion obsession is square toe sandals like these and these. It’s been a while since I’ve seen a trend that’s this ubiquitous.

4. I’m crushing on this hairstyle big time!

5. Right before the pandemic I went to Lake Como for a big birthday and stayed at this amazing hotel. I never got a chance to write a post about it because everyone stopped traveling, but the setting was magical and the decor was exquisite! Maybe I’ll still write a post someday…

6. I talk often about high-low decorating and I approach fashion the same way. I balance my super cheap discount purchases like this adorable summer dress with a couple of dream luxury products each year. I just may have indulged in this. (Don’t click if it’s going to bother you that it’s expensive. I’m telling you up front… it’s expensive. Hey, I haven’t bought anything in year… ;-))

7. I’m loving these squares on Instagram right now: this white room, this outdoor patio, this floral arrangement and these magnificent blooms.

8. I’m dying to make this healthy and colorful one-pan dinner idea: turkey and veggie skillet

9. It was relaxed and casual for summer on the blog this week. I shared this idea for entertaining last-minute guests and this cheerful patio decor update, along with this summer table. We also talked about tips for decorating with vintage silver.

10. My next project: a painted writing desk with a hot accent color. Be on the lookout!

1. I’m not much of a reader, so hopefully you will get good book suggestions from Lory or Yvonne! I do, however, completely enjoy watching TV. It helps me relax, and I love the wide array of choices on the various channels. I recently watched The Lost Husband on Netflix, and loved it. (Who doesn’t think Josh Duhamel is cute?)

2. If you haven’t watched Virgin River, also on Netflix, it’s a must-see. The third season is coming out on July 9th.

3. I want to share a few other things that I know you will love. First is this darling tote bag. My daughter has something similar that she bought locally, so I searched on Etsy, and found almost the same thing. It can be personalized with just about any phrase or word you want.

4. I recently bought a small, electric power washer. (Don’t laugh!) It’s definitely not for everyone, but for me, it’s perfect. It’s lightweight, easy to move around, and it’s much better than a garden hose when it comes to cleaning outdoor surfaces.

5. Since it’s peach season, here is a recipe for blackberry peach crisp that was amazing. I may or may not have eaten it for breakfast! I made it when I was visiting my son and daughter-in-law, and everyone gave it a thumbs-up.

6. This book about peonies is #9 on the Amazon Best Gardening Books list. I personally own it, and in my humble opinion, it should rank much higher!

7. This salad looks fresh and delicious.

8. Last week was quiet on the blog while I was working on issues behind the scenes. I did share these super easy peach shortbread bars. My dad thoroughly enjoyed them!

9. Coming next week: a new patio dining set and lemon ice cream!

1. Summer is heating up here and I’m finding lots of ways to cool down. Staying inside and reading is one way to beat the heat. My current read, The Four Winds, is a good one written by the same author as The Nightingale (one of my favorite books). Kristin Hannah keeps turning out the best books. And I just love these beautiful decorating books here, here, and here. The last one is from one of my favorite designers. This is one of my favorite cookbooks. It’s so old but the ideas and recipes are amazing!

2. Another way to beat the heat is to eat healthy popsicles. I just got these fun popsicle molds to make my own yummy popsicles! You can see delicious popsicle recipes in a super oldie-but-goodie post here. And here is my favorite summer salad that is so so easy to make.

3. At the pool, I wear this sassy straw sun visor. I get so many compliments on it. And here is my go-to summer hat. And more summer picks for your wardrobe here and here and here.

4. Let’s talk breakfast! What is your go-to nosh? In the summer months, I make this delicious strawberry shortcake for breakfast! I top it with the best in-season fruit. If you try one new recipe this summer try this one!

5. I’m still decorating for summer. I just added a very interesting, moody green pillow to my summer decor I just love! See it here. Here is another pillow I added to our master bedroom bed. And the pillow I get asked most about here.

6. I’m thinking of putting a long table in my foyer and I like this navy table and the same table in a wood tone. And I few more I like here, here, and here. Tell me what you think!

7. If you haven’t seen the outdoor spaces around our home and our newly decorated patio you can see a Summer Outdoor Tour here. And ideas for decorating a small front porch here.

8. One of the best binge-worthy tv series is Anzac Girls on Amazon Prime and Acorn. This is a sweeping series about Australian and New Zealand women who served as nurses during WW 2 in the Pacific theater.

9. Fun things for next week… summer entertaining ideas and little things that make a big difference.

See you next week!

I join the positive comments and throughly enjoyed all three posts. The only downside for me was looking at the many links and then having to go back and start process over to continue to the next link. Great info in those I checked out.

  2. I enjoyed the new series, although I must say that it was much easier to navigate Ann’s and Yvonne’s than Lori’s. Mentioning the topic really helps me decide whether I need to continue to search that item or move on. I’m an avid reader, so I love book suggestions! Thanks!

    1. Ann Drake says:

Thank you for the input…we appreciate it!

    2. Lory at Designthusiasm says:

I appreciate your feedback, too, Joan. I thought I labeled most everything. Would you mind pointing out what was confusing so I can be clearer in the future?

      Best,
      Lory

    3. Great new series! I would enjoy it so much more if there were photos that linked to the item. It’s just too time-consuming to click through for so many items. Maybe it just needs to be shorter? Three items each?

  3. Love this new series!

  4. Anne-Marie says:

Hi Ann! I love this new format for Wednesdays. It has more useful information and is easier to read. I look forward to enjoying a midweek break of helpful hints. (I already ordered a dress from one of the suggestions.) Thank you!

  5. Love this new series! And I loved, loved your bathrooms makerovers!

  6. I think this is a good series, but don’t like having to click each link to see what you’re all talking about.

    1. Ann Drake says:

Thank you for the input! We will make an effort to make what the links are more clear. We appreciate your honesty!

  7. Thanks, Ladies – enjoy your new Wednesday series! I do agree with some others that I like knowing what I’m clicking on so a preface hint is welcomed. Like all the topics – books, recipes, gardening, decor, clothing, maybe a favorite quote. Nice start to the day. Thanks!!

  8. Jane Bentrott says:

I just finished Four Winds last night! While it wasn’t a fun read, it sure gave me a glimpse into what life was like during that time! I am too whimpy to have survived, that’s for sure!

  9. I really like this new series. I’m always looking for a good book to read or a new television series or movie. I am going to try the shrimp avocado salad soon as it sounds delicious. I’m already looking forward to next week.

  10. 5 stars

    Linda

  11. Jan Fusco says:

I love the new Wednesday series. Keep um coming. Thanks for all the great recommendations.

  12. Hi there,
I am sorry but I agree with Lorri…it just seems like a way to make money off your blog. I don’t like having to click everything to see what you are talking about. Maybe you could post a picture of everything below your words so we can see it and if we are interested then we click on the link….just a thought!
    Have a good day.

  13. Love this new series! Hope it continues!

  14. I love this new series Wednesday.
    Thanks girls.

    Much love,
    Rose

  15. I dont like this series because when I am reading this, it seems like you are
a hawking salesperson for the items you are talking about. Sorry Ann I just dont like this series. 😬

    1. Ann Drake says:

Hmmmm. Well, here’s the honest truth. I offer everything on my blog for free to my readers. I don’t charge for a thing…not even the yearly calendar. This blog is my full-time job, and without the ads & affiliate links, I would have to shut it down. Clicking on the links doesn’t cost you a thing, so it’s a way for you to help keep my blog afloat. I did include some affiliate links in my section, but there were a lot of regular links too. I hope you give us another chance!

  16. Anne Marie Gorman says:

I personally like the ‘surprise’ links in the Wednesday Weekly Wish List. Added a little excitement into my morning blog browse. Keep the Wish List coming. Great idea.

    1. Ann Drake says:

Thank you for letting us know!

  17. Enjoyable to read. I suggest you say what the item is in the hyperlink like Ann did, rather than just the here hyperlink. I found myself just skipping the ones that weren’t easily identifiable. Because Ann labeled her peony book, I clicked and ordered it. I hope this is helpful to you in improving this series.

    1. Ann Drake says:

This is super helpful…thank you for your input!

  18. I love home style Saturday’s and now I love this too!

  19. Thank you Ann! I enjoying visiting the two blogs along with yours – they mingle nicely together. You have a way of bringing home decor, light eating and pastimes together – inviting us to try without being overwhelmed.

  20. Nancy Suchniak says:

    Hey Ladies,
Really enjoyed your new Wednesday Series. Lots of fun ideas and interesting books and tv series.
Loved the blue table, I’m trying to think of a spot in my house for it and the tote bag, that baby is mine!! Thanks for always showing new ways to decorate and improve our lifestyle.
    Nancy

  21. I read Four Winds a few months ago and it would make an excellent movie.
I already cast the characters in my mind.
Does anyone else do that when reading a great book?
I like having this kind of post to look forward to mid week. Thanks ladies!
