Pieces of Autumn 2012 ~ Part I

George Eliot quote free printableclick to download George Eliot free printable

Like many of you, Autumn is my favorite season of the year. Cooler temperatures give relief after the heat of summer. Autumn signals the fresh start of a school year, shorter days, a new football season, stunning colors before the leaves fall. The first glimpse of fall On Sutton Place always appears on my front porch. My front door to be exact.

I really changed things this year. Don’t faint from shock but I’m using another basket in place of a wreath. (That’s two in a row if you are paying attention!)

So just out of curiosity I emailed Mary Alice to see where she purchased it. She responded with a link to a shop where she lives…which is Virginia. Not exactly right around the corner.

After that I dismissed it and moved on. A few days later I received an email from Mary Alice with an offer I couldn’t refuse. She said she wasn’t attached to it yet and if I really wanted the basket I could buy it. She even said she would ship it to me.

I was thrilled. The basket arrived and it now lives on my front door. It was meant to be. I needed a new door mat to go with my new basket so I picked this one up at TJMaxx.

It has a tiny bit of light blue which ties in my door.

I hit my urns with a fresh coat of black spray paint.

Two rusty-red mums finish it all off.

Of all the things I do around here to usher in the different seasons, fluffing my front door is my favorite. What is your favorite way to welcome a new season?

  2. I love your printable, but it’s mis-attributed to George Eliot. It should be to George Cooper. And the original poem says “red” not scarlet. :)

    Best!

I need to get some mums, too … just afraid that the harsh heat and direct sunlight we have in the front of our home will knock them out pretty quickly. Thanks for sharing!

  29. Beautiful fall doorscape, Ann. I love your new basket, a real eye-catcher against your blue door.
I am enjoying these last few weeks of summer with my morning ritual of flying our flag, watering my large pot of beautiful pink geraniums, and waving to the neighbor’s children as they walk to their bus stop. I share a happy smile of retirement with you, my friend.
I voted for Andrea and became a new follower to her blog. I also saw Karianne is a finalist for her amazing Thistlewood blog.
