The older I get, the more I realize that Thanksgiving isn’t about where we celebrate. It’s about who and what we hold close. Over the years, our family’s holiday has changed, and sometimes that’s bittersweet. The faces around the table shift, and the traditions we once took for granted look a little different now. But even when miles separate us, small rituals help us stay connected. A favorite recipe, a thoughtfully set table, or a handmade decoration can bring comfort and joy to the season. Keep reading for inspiration to make this Thanksgiving feel special in your very own way.
Even simple touches, like lighting a candle or setting out a favorite recipe, can bring a sense of calm to the season. A Family Favorite
No collection of Thanksgiving ideas would be complete without including one of my family’s favorite dishes. It’s a set-in-stone tradition for Thanksgiving Day, and sometimes it reappears at Christmas. Over the years, this Jiffy Corn Casserole recipe has become a favorite not just in my kitchen, but in many of yours too. If you’ve had it, you know how good it is, and if you haven’t, you’re in for a treat. It comes together in under 10 minutes and bakes up perfectly every time. Just be sure to plan your oven space so there’s room for it to cook for about an hour before you eat. Our family would never, ever take this off the Thanksgiving menu.

This will be my first Thanksgiving since losing my husband. That’s a huge challenge, but thinking of something that happened last year makes me laugh. We had started going to our daughter’s home for all the holidays, but I brought almost all the dinner. She is a highly educated professional. When we walked into her kitchen the turkey looked wonderful. I asked her where the mashed potatoes were and she looked at me like I was from Mars. What mashed potatoes? I didn’t even ask “where is the gravy?”! Too funny.

Welcome to the club. With one married son living in Washington State and one married daughter living in Florida, it’s only my husband and sister who are close enough to celebrate holidays unless my sister goes to her kids a state away then it’s just the hubby and me. We don’t like eating out because of the crowds and noise so staying home is the option of choice. Thank you for the tips and suggestions and recipes. We try to make them happy occasions.

Oh Ann I am for certain a member of the change is difficult group. We not only rightsized from our lovely four bedroom home but one son lives out of state and fortunately the other one is now local again. My brother-in-law joins us at well. So the four of us make the most of it in our lovely new place. They are football followers. I will make a lovely dinner and after clean up enjoy our beautiful four season porch watching Hallmark😊
Just a fun add on… last year both of my sons told me they don’t like turkey🤦♀️. So ham it is. Hubby and his brother not happy but I typically make turkey at least once a month during the winter. Thanks for all the inspiring ideas!
