Use this countdown to Thanksgiving paper chain printable to mark the days from November 1st to Thanksgiving Day. It’s a free and easy digital download, and it’s the perfect craft for kids or grandkids!
**Update October 2020: this post was originally published in 2015. The paper chain I shared back then is still available, along with a brand new one that’s now featured in this post. All the information for getting this offer is included at the end.
When I was a kid, my family made paper chains to count down just about everything. Summer vacation, Christmas, birthdays. We tacked them on my Mom’s bulletin board in our kitchen. My brothers and I had to take turns tearing off the circles…so when it was my day to tear one off, I was always excited. I vividly remember these moments from my childhood…and they are very happy memories.

Countdown to Thanksgiving Paper Chain Printable
There are four pages to the new paper chain. They can be assembled any way you like, and all don’t have to be used. The text pages are available in a pretty cursive font, plus an easy-to-read font for children. Colorful strips are included, along with the final circle for Thanksgiving Day. The strips come five to a page. Make sure to cut the strips inside the black lines. As I mentioned above, the original printable from 2015 is also included in the download. Each page is a separate JPEG file, so it’s simple to print all of them, or just a few.
You can print this countdown to Thanksgiving paper chain printable on any kind of paper. I used brown kraft paper for a more vintage look. Cut the strips and tape or staple the circles together, intertwining the strips as you go. It’s completely optional, but there is a space on each strip to write something that you and your family are grateful for. As you tear off each one, you will be reminded that life is short, and to be thankful for all you have.
You can find brown kraft paper at any craft or discount store, or you can shop for it {HERE.}

What a great idea !
Easy way for children to participate in the holiday.
I love this idea! It is so nice to spread a holiday out instead of celebrating on just one day. This is especially meaningful this year as we reflect back and realize how much we are blessed and be thankful for each small blessing. Thanks for a wonderful tradition.

Hi Ann,
Just found your blog and love it so signed up immediately! I took the tours and your home is beautiful. I would love to know how you keep the grout on your kitchen counters so bright white. I tiled my sister’s counter tops and they have not fared so good. She has tried many different methods to clean the grout and it just won’t budge. Any suggestion would be helpful. Thanks
I just started radiation for breast cancer. I only have 16 treatments…but I have started a paper chain and tear off one after each session. As of today…11 to go. I’m thankful this year for so many blessings. My husband, children, grandchildren and a God who goes before me. Thank you for your inspirational blog…my absolute favorite.
Prayers are with you and your family.
Hi Ann, I am having trouble being able to print out any of your printables (paper chain, Fall quotes etc)…..after downloading and then hitting print it comes up blank…..any ideas??
Hi Susan…I have no idea what’s wrong. When you download and open the file is the printable there? If yes then it must be something with your print feature. I can try emailing the files to you if you think that might help. Let me know!
OK, I love this paper chain!! I am very limited in what I do on the computer…duh!!! what kind of paper did you use for this? thank you
Hi Cheryl!
I used regular kraft paper from the scrapbook aisle at Hobby Lobby. Any kind of paper will work!

your a very classy lady. You home is beautiful and you are always so sweet. I’m honored to be able be view your things. Thank you
Hello, Ann. I really appreciate your clever idea, reinforcing the whole idea behind our national holiday. It seems to be that more and more, Thanksgiving gets lost in the mad, hectic dash between Trick or Treat and Christmas. I’ve always loved Thanksgiving, with family, from near and far gathered ’round a table groaning under the weight of all that delicious food, and of course for the time spent contemplating our many blessings. (And yes, I have my share of crazy relatives, just like everyone else, but I wouldn’t trade them for the world!) So thank you for sharing this ‘Blessings Chain’ w/us. A new tradition is born at our house!!
Hi Laurie!
Enjoy the paper chain with your family. I agree that Thanksgiving tends to get pushed to the side…especially here in blogland. Thank you for your kind comment!
I love your blog, especially the printables!. I am loving this Thanksgiving chain!!!
…… simply BEAUTIFUL !!!!
Thank you for all the things you do for us, i am very grateful for printables, recipes and wonderful ideas. Have a blessed weekend.
Thank you Marlene…Happy Halloween!
Oh, Ann, this is so lovely and it comes at a very special time for me. My daughter is seriously ill and facing surgery, radiation and chemo. We are encouraged by our good doctors, but I want to do everything I can to make our holidays extra special. I can’t wait to include this chain!
Blessings to you Sheran and to your family as well. Your positive outlook is amazing.
Ann, the Thnksgiving paper chain is lovely and I want to include it with our celebration this year. I need some clarification, however. Is the plan to have follks ((big and little) write or dictate what they are thankful for on the chain
sheets, THEN make the chain and use it to decorate? Are these read at the table? Or, enjoyed as a family activity? Sorry to be out of the loop (no pun intended)! Would love to hear from you and Happy Autumn!
Marilyn
Hi Marilyn! You can basically do whatever you want. If you write something you are thankful for on each piece before you make the paper chain, then when you tear them off you will be reminded of that. You could perhaps save them and read some at the table. Happy Autumn to you too!
What a super cute idea Ann :) Pinning!
Thank YOU, Ann, for bringing so many beautiful ideas, recipes, and inspiration to us everyday! Love your blog and hope you and your family have a wonderful upcoming Holiday Season 2015!!
Love this idea, my children always enjoy making paper chains! This will definitely be a family project. Thanks for all the great ideas. Love your blog.
I really want to do this project with family and Grandchildren traveling to see us for Thanksgiving
Thanks for this! I think they would make cool napkin rings too.
Hi Terri! Great idea. :) I shared it on my Facebook page because I had not thought of that!
Morning Ann,
What a cute idea, we made them too, but only for Christmas, but there was nothing written
on them, just plain ole green and red. This looks like it would make
a really cute chain, and neat that the kiddos can take one off daily. A great and fun way to
count down to the next holiday………….
You always have such a lovely blog……and Thank You for all the free printables, decorating
inspiration and great recipes and just for being you.
Blessings, Nellie
I have always loved doing paper chain countdowns with my children when they were younger. This chain adds such a nice additional touch with the opportunity to express your gratitude for the many blessings, both large and small, in your life. The artwork you added is beautiful as well. Thank you for sharing this lovely way to express thanks throughout the season.
I love this idea. I am watching my 4 year old granddaughter for a few days. this will be a cute little project to do with her. Thanks!
Good morning Ann,
Abundant Blessings to you – Much gratitude for keeping me company early – very early – in the morning! The Thanksgiving chain is really Beautiful – Jan
Oh, Ann, i love this! PLEASE do a paper chain printable for Christmas! I want to do this with my grandchildren.
Hi Candy!
I honestly hadn’t thought that far but what a wonderful idea. Consider it done! ~Ann
