You’ll find complex and passionate characters, particularly strong, stubborn women and no shortage of moral crisis.

10. CULINARY CORNER: We recently got a jar of Candied Orange Peel as a gift and love them! Thanks, Tim and Eileen! Here’s how easy they are to make. Cut one inch off the top and bottom of a large navel orange with a paring knife and discard. Score orange through the white pith, lengthwise about 1/4 inch apart. Do not score the orange flesh. Add the orange strips, 2 cups of sugar, and one cup of water to a saucepan. Bring to a boil, reduce the heat, and simmer for 45-60 minutes until the pith is white and opaque. Remove to a wire rack, let the excess sugar syrup drip off, and dry a bit. When they are tacky, not wet, put sugar in a bowl, add the orange peel, and coat them liberally. Fill a mason jar and give this as a sweet gift.

ANSWER TO #7: A partridge in a pear tree, two turtle doves, three French hens, four calling birds, five golden rings, six geese a-laying, seven swans-a-swimming, eight maids a-milking, nine ladies dancing, ten lords-a-leaping, eleven pipers piping, twelve drummers drumming were the gifts given on the 12 days of Christmas, at an estimated to cost $46,729.86! The real St. Nick was the 4th-century bishop from Myra, now modern-day Turkey. He was known for his generosity and love of children. The Real St. Nick tells the story. Now you know!
