1.) Happy New Year! I took last week off to relax and regroup after the busy holiday season. I watched TV, took care of some behind-the-scenes blog jobs, and generally just took it easy. Now that the New Year is officially here, I’m ready to get back to work and bring you fresh and new ideas. So stay tuned!

2.) I just curated an Amazon collection of items to cozy up your home…see it HERE.

3.) FAVORITE QUOTE: “There will be a lot of posts soon from people sharing how much they achieved in 2024. But in case someone needs to hear this…it’s okay if the only thing you did this year was just get through it.” Found HERE.

4.) Winters in Ohio are gray and cold…but here are a few things that help me on a daily basis. First, this hand lotion heals all the cracks & dry patches. I wear this coat everywhere…I’ve had it for at least six years and it still looks new. These slippers are on my feet every single day. I use this lip balm, I take this heat pack to bed every night, and I just got these boots and love them!

5.) OUTERWEAR FAVORITES

6.) FAVORITE SIDE TABLES UNDER $200:

7.) LOVELY INSPIRATION: up first is an English style home in California, and then take a look at this Fort Worth home filled with family heirlooms and modern charm.

8.) SOUP FOR SUPPER: one of the most popular OSP recipes at this time of year is my weight loss vegetable soup. It’s easy to throw together, very delicious, and good for you. The week before I made this weight loss version, I made this one pot vegetable beef soup, and both made the perfect cold weather supper.

9.) Coming to the blog in January: my newly renovated and reorganized laundry room, updated neutral decor ideas, and a creamy chicken and rice dinner for two.

10.) Enjoy this first day of 2025!

9. CULINARY CORNER: Easy Scotish Shortbread Cookies: When I was a little girl I lived in Scotland and we made these delicious cookies in school. I remember using regular sugar, but powdered sugar makes this no-mixer version easier. Preheat the oven to 300 degrees. Cream by hand 3 sticks of room temperature, salted butter in a larg bowl, about one minutes. Add 1 cup of powdered sugar and cream together, about one minute. Gradually, add 3 cups all-purpose flour mixing well. Turn the dough out and form it into two 7-inch discs. Place the discs onto a parchment lined baking sheet. Score the discs into 8 pie shaped wedges with a sharp knife and prick each wedge at the top with the tines of a fork. Bake for 30-40 minute until the edges of the disc start to color just a little. Let cool, gently beak along the scored edges and enjoy!

ANSWER TO #7: The confetti dropped in Time Square contains thousands of wishes written on it. It’s called wishfetti. It’s widely believed that January gets its name from the Roman god Janus. However, it really gets its name from the Latin word “ianua,” which means door. The idea is of opening a door to the new possibilities in the new year. Now you know!

  1. Hello Ann and Happy New Year to you! Happy to hear you took a well-deserved break during the holidays! I was wondering where you bought your cute white snowflake jars with the handles, pictured above on your chest. I always look forward to your posts and have followed your blog for years. Thank you for making our homes and lives cozy and happy! Your time and effort does not go unnoticed.

    1. Hi Sally: those jar lanterns are from Yvonne’s blog. I asked her for a link, but she said she found them at a local shop, and doesn’t have a source. I did a quick Google search and found this one at Pottery Barn that’s very pretty and is on sale: https://rstyle.me/+p-f3Xy1w2XouoAGSynMdmw. Thank you!

      1. Thank you Ann for your response and info regarding the jar lanterns. I’ll take a look at the Pottery Barn link that you included. 😊

  2. Oh wow! Love that blue/white pitcher. You don’t happen to have a link to shop that do you?
    Happy New Year!

    1. Hi Sandi: that pitcher is vintage Liberty Blue transferware. It’s no longer being made, but you can easily find it on eBay or Etsy. Here is a link to the eBay listings: https://rstyle.me/+cu9gy0grEUSbLqOQxSeetg. Make sure to check the condition, and compare shipping costs. Good luck!

  3. Happy New Year Ann to you and your family !
