Modern Coastal Decor from Designthusiasm

1. For years I thought of coastal decor as kind of kitschy beach house decor. But the new coastal is much more subtle and is definitely up-trending. If you’d like to add a sense of peace and tranquility to your all-year decor, check out 4 Interpretations of Modern Coastal Decor.

UNDER $50: these jacquard cheetah print pillows, this decorative leaf bowl in silver, these recycled glass vases, and for those thinking ahead: these carved wood pumpkin objects. (I know it’s early, but they’re going to sell out… ;-)).

UNDER $100: my favorite antiqued metal tray (I have the small rectangle), this faux cream lunaria wreath, this burled wood decorative box, and last week’s best seller: this square quartz stone catchall.

UNDER $200: these decorative book bundles (by color), these elegant brass lanterns, this chunky knit throw, and this beautiful vine umbrella holder (I just bought this to hold wrapping paper rolls!)

3. If you continue to entertain outside in the months after summer, you’re probably ready to refresh the patio about this time of year. Here’s an End of Summer Backyard Patio Refresh.

4. FASHION PICKS: Here are a few key transitional pieces to take you from late summer into early fall. Most are from the ever-popular Nordstrom sale and all are classic, quality items. This classic drapey shirt (comes in black and white), this luscious cardigan (pricey, but 35% off!), these must-have faux leather leggings (I live in these and they currently have a deep discount), these relaxed fit ankle jeans (on sale – only a few left in each size), these wear-with-anything western booties (on sale and a best-seller from last week), and this breezy boyfriend blazer (on sale, great price!)

5. WHAT’S INSPIRING ME AROUND THE WEB: Loving this breakfast nook mix of vintage with modern and a perfect example of modern French country. This stunning great room is a wonderful pairing of rustic with modern, plus an overlay of elegance. Another great combination of vintage with modern, this lovely entryway features clean updated lines with an exquisite antique chest.

6. FURNITURE DEALS: This beautiful sofa, this charming coffee table, this lovely chest of drawers, this perfect dining table (amazing sale!), and these darling dining chairs with back detail.

7. THIS WEEK ON THE BLOG I shared how to personalize your home with decorative hardware and trim, these 6 ways to warm up the guest room for fall visitors, these 5 ways to upgrade your family room for luxury and comfort, and how to set a special table with ordinary white dishes.

8. LUXURY LINK OF THE WEEK: My favorite foundation was already pretty luxurious, but I just tried a sample of this new-to-me one and loved it. Great for mature skin. Placed my order this morning! I can whole-heartedly recommend either one, although the new one is a tad more flawless.

9. FAVORITE QUOTE: “Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.” – Leonardo Da Vinci

1.) Just to let you know…we are running the $75 gift card giveaways for three more weeks. So that’s today, another one on August 3rd, and the final one will be August 10th. If you haven’t entered yet, please do! Get all the details HERE.

2.) LOVELY THINGS: this Julia Berolzheimer shower curtain in her signature shade of blue, this beautifully simple collection of white stoneware, this stunning gold wall mounted coat hook, this super cute hyacinth pouf ottoman that comes in 3 colors, and these gold basketweave earrings, with the gorgeous matching bracelet. I also found this amazingly priced spindle chair, and it looks exactly like this expensive version from Serena & Lily!

3.) ITEMS I OWN + LOVE: I’m a big Amazon shopper. Rarely a day goes by when I don’t place an order for something. I’ve become much better at checking the ratings & reviews, so my returns are few and far between. I’ve collected all of my favorite purchases into a section in my Amazon storefront that’s called “Items I Own & Love.” I have every single item that’s featured, and can recommend each one. (The shop section is no particular order, so make sure and scroll all the way to the end!)

4.) FAVORITE QUOTE: “Give up waiting as a state of mind. When you catch yourself slipping into waiting, snap out of it. Come into the present moment. Just be and enjoy being.” ~Eckhart Tolle

5.) WHAT’S INSPIRING ME: take a tour of this new Tennessee home that is filled with old southern charm, these kitchen gardens are truly amazing, if you feel like dreaming a bit, take a look at this lovely lakeside home, and I could stay forever in this tiny guest house.

6.) At the end of every month, I send phone and computer screensavers to my email subscribers. They are calendars, and I’ll be sending out the August editions tomorrow, so if you are interested, but not on my list, just sign up HERE. They’re easy to download, and they make your devices functional and very pretty.

7.) ON THE BLOG: my new post this week revolved around home downsizing, and how to cope when your family doesn’t want your stuff. This subject is personal and emotional, but it’s something most of us have to deal with sooner or later. The comments are so incredible that I’m going to feature some of them in another post very soon, so stay tuned for that.

8.) I’m not very good at social media, and I’m not the least bit interested in TikTok. However, every once in a while I catch a viral TikTok video that’s been shared on Instagram or YouTube. I recently saw how to make the most incredible and simple cinnamon rolls. I couldn’t share the actual video, but I found it HERE. I haven’t tried it yet, but I plan on making them soon!

9.) That’s it for this week. Stay safe and have fun!

They say “all greens go together”, hmmm not sure! These home tours are so informative and full of great ideas!

9. Interior Design Inspiration: Last week we talked about paint (see it here), and this week here are some design elements you must know about to be a great home decorator: 7 Tips For Mixing Decorating StylesWhat Is Rhythm And How It Helps To Create Beauty, and How Space Works In Your Interiors.

10. I watched Jane Austen’s Persuasion last week and loved it! Here are her greatest novels in movie form: Pride and PrejudiceSense And SensibilityMansfield ParkEmma and Northanger AbbyBecoming Jane is a little look into the life of Jane Austen, one of England’s most famous writers who penned about the trials, joys and injustices of her day.

Answers to #6- Libya is the hottest spot on the earth, no summer vacationing there! Copper and it’s alloys and silver are self disinfecting. The old adage “born with a silver spoon in his/her mouth” has two meanings. First, it is a sign of wealth and also silver was used to cure mouth issues such as sore throats because of its disinfecting properties.

  1. Laurie Buschell says:

Thank you this was a fun post to read and links to view. I can’t wait for your fall posts 😍

  2. The downsizing post was great for my parents right now and for me as well. There are certain things that I want that have sentimental value but my parents have a hard time with me not wanting it all. I sent them both the article to read. And as for me my husband and I started collecting things for our kids when they were young thinking they’d be worth something one day and both of our children have no interest in these items. It’s hard not to take it personally but after reading your article it made it a bit easier to understand.

  3. I love both designs. We go to the beach every year and there is just something about the colors of coastal design that can take you right back to those memories.

And the soft hues of the 2nd one remind me or summer winding down and the soft colors invoke getting ready for a cozy fall.

  4. Tracy Cook says:

Interesting reading what to do when family don’t want stuff. My daughter that I live next door to has proclaimed that the day after my funeral a skip will arrive and everything will go into it.

She has already accidentally!!!!! Thrown a trunk away which happened to be full of cards from my first birthday my stamp collection etc.
