The combination of orange and pineapple gives it a fresh, bright flavor, while the banana and almond butter add a smooth, creamy texture. The oats make it a little more filling than a typical smoothie, so it’s a good option for breakfast or a light meal. If you like simple recipes that don’t require anything special, this is one to keep on repeat.

Citrus Smoothie Tips

  • Use frozen fruit. When the banana and pineapple are frozen, the texture is naturally thicker and stays that way because there is no need for ice. I don’t always have frozen bananas, but when I do, I add them to my smoothie recipes.
  • Blend the oats first if you prefer a smoother texture. If you don’t want any texture from the oats, blend them with the liquid before adding the remaining ingredients. This gives the smoothie a completely smooth consistency.
  • Adjust the citrus level to your taste. If you like a stronger citrus flavor, add a little more orange juice. For a milder version, increase the almond milk slightly.
  • Almond butter adds richness, but can be skipped. It gives the smoothie a creamy texture and helps make it more filling, but the recipe still works well without it.
