Fall at Home

Fall rarely arrives all at once. At my house, it begins with a few small changes. September often feels like a mix of summer and fall, which makes it a nice time to welcome fall at home, but in a simple way.

That is exactly what I did this year. The living room looks much the same as it always does, and I am perfectly happy with that. I added fall color through pillows, throws, and a few accessories, then carried some of those same tones into the kitchen. Nothing was complicated, and very little was new. It was simply enough to make the house feel ready for the season ahead.

A Familiar Room, Ready For Fall

The living room itself has not changed, but somehow it feels as though it has. A simple switch of accessories, with rust-colored pillows, a few throws, and small fall touches, was enough to give the room a different look. It is still the same familiar space, just a little warmer for the season, and that is perfectly fine with me.

The deeper rust tones work especially well with the wood pieces already in the room, and I like the contrast against the light upholstery. A simple white pumpkin on the ottoman adds a small nod to fall without making the room feel overly decorated. Even the autumn scene on the television adds color to the room without adding another thing. These small updates were enough to make the living room feel refreshed, while still looking very much like home.

Repeat A Few Fall Elements

One thing that helped everything feel connected was using the same faux stems throughout the living room and kitchen. I chose pomegranates, blueberries, dark red rose hips, and rust mums, then repeated them rather than using something different in every spot. A few stems went on the mantel, more were added to my mom’s pitcher and bowl, and I carried a small touch of the same colors into the kitchen.

Repeating those elements made the decorating feel intentional without requiring much effort or very many supplies. I especially like this approach because it makes decorating simpler. Once I had settled on the colors and stems I wanted to use, the rest came together naturally.

Simple Fall Touches in the Kitchen

The kitchen received just a few fall touches, and almost everything came from what I already had. I can see the shaker peg wall from my kitchen sink, and it truly makes me happy every time I look at it. I had two pomegranate stems left, so I put them in the hanging basket.

I kept the dining nook just as simple. The table centerpiece was put together with things I already had, so it took very little time. The same idea carried over to the plate rack, where I tied on a small basket of fall flowers with a brown ribbon. It is a tiny detail, but sometimes those are the things I enjoy most. A Simple Start to Fall

There is something about the beginning of fall that makes me happy. Even after all these years, September still feels a little like a fresh start. This year, that meant making a few simple updates at home, bringing out things I already had, and adding colors that felt right for the season.

Nothing needed a major change. The living room is still the same familiar room, and the kitchen is filled with the same things I use all year. A few thoughtful touches were enough to make everything feel different, and for me, that was enough to welcome fall.
