A simple Christmas porch featuring ribbon, Norfolk pine, neutral tones, and cozy touches. Easy ideas to welcome the season with warmth.

Each year, decorating for the holidays feels a little more challenging. I second-guess my choices, and when I scroll through social media, the beautiful spaces shared by others can be overwhelming. So this season, I took a deep breath and went back to basics. I gathered my favorite things and kept it simple with ribbon, Norfolk pine, cozy pillows, and soft layers. The result is a welcoming porch that blends with the colors in my home and came together quickly.

Choosing Your Porch Palette
I chose mostly neutrals because they are the holiday decor focus inside. The browns and ivories work beautifully with the brown stone on the house, so it made sense to repeat those tones on the porch. The only real color comes from the front door, which adds just enough interest without competing with anything else. Ribbon helped everything feel coordinated, and because itโs such an easy element to use, it brought the whole palette together. Understated but fresh.

Greenery & Texture: Norfolk Pine and Beyond
I started with a Norfolk pine wreath that has appeared on the porch many times. This season, I refreshed it by wiring on round brown and ivory ornaments, along with a few pinecones. I finished it with a bow made from the three ribbon designs I used throughout the porch. It reminded me of a wreath I had seen online that featured similar colors and textures. Mine isnโt an exact match, but I love the way it turned out. (I hang the wreath with a Command hook.)

The wreath that inspired the look carried a steep price tag, so I took a more practical approach. I reused a wreath I already had, added affordable velvet ornaments, and tied on simple ribbon. For a fraction of the cost, I was able to get a similar style while staying within my budget. If you like projects that feel approachable, you might enjoy these little dried orange wreaths. (The wide plaid ribbon is sold out everywhere. Here is something similar.)

Cozy Details That Invite You In
I decorated the sitting area of the porch the same way I have in the past. It works every time, so there was no reason to change it. A soft muslin throw blanket and a pair of pillows warm up the rockers and make the space feel inviting. I used a rustic black vase filled with faux greenery on the wood garden stool, which adds height and much-needed color. The same ribbon from the wreath ties everything together for a look that feels well-thought-out, but still very simple.

Bringing It All Together
When I placed the little Norfolk pine trees in the white planters, I fully intended to add white lights. After everything was arranged, including the wreath, layered doormats, and trees, I stepped back and realized the porch didnโt need anything more. The exterior lighting on the house is lovely, so I decided to let it do the heavy lifting this year. The trees look simple and natural, and skipping the lights made the whole process easier. (The planters have a built-in shelf about halfway down, but the trees still sat too low. To raise them, I placed a plastic container under each one. After the trees were at the right height, I filled the space around them with pinecones.)

Layered doormats add interest and a bit of color right at the entrance. The trees on the top mat remind me of the Trio of Trees printable that is brand new this year in my Christmas collection. Even though the mat was inexpensive, because of this little connection, it ended up being my favorite element on the porch. If you like seasonal touches that feel easy to repeat, you might enjoy the Trio of Trees printable featured in my Christmas Printables Collection.

Tips For Repeating This Look In Future Years
Repeating this look in future years is very simple. Start with the pieces you already have, and let a favorite wreath or ribbon guide the rest. Keep the palette limited to a few tones, and update just one or two elements so the porch feels fresh without replacing everything. Texture does a lot of the work, so soft throws, pine branches, woven mats, and stone all add interest without adding more items. Most of all, repeat what works. If a layout feels right, thereโs no need to change it. Small adjustments can make a familiar design feel new again.

I really like this look on your porch! The beautiful green and texture of the Norfolk and the brown and ivory colors. It really ties into the color of the brick. And the best part is this can carry over through the winter season too! Great inspiration. Thank you.

I love your front porch wreath!!
I love the natural look. The pictures are very good, but I would have liked to have seen how the porch looks in its entirety. I felt as though I was just seeing bits and pieces. Could you post one that gives us a look at the whole scene?
Lovely! I have always loved the classic looks of Christmas decor. After losing my husband last year I decided to honor him by continuing to maintain our home like we used to. I have a classic white colonial with full front porch. I put candles in the windows and a large green wreath with gold accents and white lights. Love the look. Like you said in an earlier post I also am not doing a Christmas tree as I spend the holiday at my daughter’s home, but instead display my collection of white and gold Christmas trees on my dining room table, with battery candles on timers throughout the house. I love everything you present on your blog.
I really love your porch and the colors! I have browns and moss greens inside my home as well and was delighted to see your wreath! Love the trio of trees printable as well! Thank you!

Ann I love your porch and you describe everything simply and beautifully in your description. I live in an area of heavy snow where I can’t add much to my porch without it all getting ruined and in the way of shoveling but I still find joy in your photos.
