This space is where I gather the things that don’t always make it into a full blog post, but still feel worth sharing. You’ll find home inspiration, recipes from my own kitchen, thoughtful tips for living well, and whatever else has been on my mind lately. So grab a comfy spot, and let’s take a look at what’s inside this week.

1.) A Simpler Way
One of the best gifts you can give yourself is a peaceful morning ritual. Because I work from home, my mornings can be slow and intentional…a quiet time to ease into the day rather than rush through it. For those who head out to work each morning, a ritual is still possible; it just might look a little different. Even a few mindful minutes can help set the tone for everything that follows.

Of course, life has a way of interrupting even our best routines. When my dad passed away, all of my usual coping mechanisms stopped for a while. It took me several months to find my footing again, and the first piece of my rhythm that returned was my morning ritual. Now, this time feels sacred. I protect it and rarely give it up.
If you’ve been feeling off balance, creating or returning to a morning ritual might help you reset and reconnect with yourself. Here are a few simple ways to start:
- Move. Stretching, a short walk, or a few minutes of exercise can wake up both body and mind. Every weekday, Millie and I begin the day with a walk. Even in the worst weather, we venture out and cover at least a mile. Believe me, there are days when I don’t want to go, but I never regret it once we’re outside.
- Nourish. Enjoy your coffee or tea slowly, and pair it with a healthy breakfast that gives you energy. As soon as we return from our walk, I make coffee. It’s truly one of the best moments of my day.
- Reflect. Begin with something grounding: a devotional, a favorite quote, or a few quiet moments of gratitude. While I’m enjoying my coffee, I check in with a few favorite inspirational online sources. Each day is different, and almost always something appears in my feed that speaks directly to me.
- Care for yourself. Take the time to get ready for the day. Shower, fix your hair, and wear something comfortable that makes you feel good. This is the final step in my ritual, and once I’m dressed and ready, the rest of the day naturally falls into place.

Over time, this quiet rhythm has become the anchor of my day. It’s where I gather my thoughts, clear my head, and remind myself to focus on this day only. Not yesterday, and not tomorrow. Just today. This small routine keeps me grounded. Protecting it feels like an act of self-kindness, and one I’m grateful for every single morning.
2.) Words Worth Sharing
“We are all called to be exceptional in the ordinary things, faithful in the little things, trustworthy when nobody’s looking.” ~Elisabeth Elliott
3.) Magazine-Worthy Made Simple
In this week’s home tour, take a look inside this historic Provincetown beach house. It’s a glorious mix of old and new…filled with color, texture, and personality. Once you’ve explored the tour, come back for a few takeaways that can bring the same charm and creativity into your own home.
How to Get the Look
- Painted wainscoting. If you have wainscoting, beadboard, or board and batten in a small space like a bathroom, consider painting it a bold color. It’s an easy way to make a big impact without overwhelming the room.
- Asymmetrical pillows. On the blue sofa, notice how the pillows are arranged. Three different fabrics, placed off-center. It’s unexpected but beautifully balanced, and a great reminder that design doesn’t have to be perfectly symmetrical to feel inviting. (Although no one loves symmetry more than me, I do truly love this look.)
- Rattan side tables. A rattan bedside or end table works with almost any décor style or color palette. It adds warmth, texture, and just the right touch of natural charm.

4.) Gather + Savor
If you have a few apples on hand, now is the perfect time to bake something warm and perfect for that first chilly day. A simple apple crumble or a batch of homemade applesauce brings the scent of fall right into your kitchen. Both are easy, comforting recipes that make the most of the season’s flavors. The apple crisp can be on the table in under an hour, and the applesauce fills your home with the sweetest aroma while it simmers away in the slow cooker. This is truly one of the easiest ways to celebrate October. Sometimes the simplest things really are the best.
5.) THINGS WORTH MENTIONING
- What You Might Have Missed: last week, I shared a few subtle ways to add a touch of Halloween to your home, along with a brand new recipe for Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Muffins. Both are simple, seasonal ideas that bring a bit of fall charm without any fuss.
- What’s Ahead: for A Sunday Well Spent, I’m putting together a post about celebrating autumn in the simplest of ways…the kind of easy moments that make this season so special. And in This Time of Year, I’m encouraging everyone to make a hearty pot of soup. There’s nothing cozier than that first simmering pot on a cool October day.

- If you love to travel but struggle with packing, this post is for you! My friend Lory from Designthusiasm recently came out of retirement to share her best packing tips…and they’re so good. She covers budget-friendly organization ideas and smart ways to build a capsule wardrobe for travel. I’ve already picked up a few tricks I plan to try the next time I pack a suitcase! Click here to learn more.
- As we settle deeper into fall, I hope you find a few quiet moments to care for yourself…maybe a slow morning, a warm cup of coffee, or a short walk that clears your mind. Those little rituals make such a difference, especially during busy days.

My husband and I love our morning time since retiring. We sit in what we call our library. In the original house plan it is called an office. We sip our coffee and catch up on news from family, friends and the world. It’s wonderful not to feel rushed!
