Discover simple home decor ideas, style tips, and seasonal inspiration through The Curated Life…your guide to living beautifully every day.

May always feels like a turning point. The house begins to shift into a lighter rhythm, and the days seem to offer just a little more time to enjoy it. The porch is ready for summer, the living room has been refreshed, and meals have taken a simpler turn with fresh salads in place of cold weather soups. Evenings are stretching out in the best way, and I find myself wanting to make the most of them before the heat settles in. There are herbs waiting to be planted, small projects being checked off, and a quiet sense that a new season is settling in nicely.

1.) Looking Back, Living Now
This is the time of year when I find myself wondering how my garden on Sutton Place is doing, especially the peonies. Those beautiful bushes took a few years to produce big, full blooms, and along the way, I learned quite a bit. If you have peonies of your own, you might enjoy these simple tips for growing and caring for them. These days, I’m determined to keep things simple, both in the garden and at home. But when May rolls around, I still catch myself looking for a spot to plant peonies. I haven’t done it, and most likely won’t, but the thought is lovely.

There’s something comforting in remembering what once was, while also learning to appreciate what is. This season looks different, and that’s okay. There is a quiet kind of contentment that comes from keeping things manageable and letting what you have be enough. And in many ways, that feels just right.

2.) Words Worth Sharing
You are only one person. A simple reminder, but one that’s easy to forget. There’s only so much that can be done in a day, and that’s okay. Not everything has to be finished, fixed, or figured out all at once. There is also only so much you can take in and carry, especially when the world feels heavy. It’s natural to offer patience and understanding to others, but it matters just as much to extend that same grace to yourself. Sometimes the best thing to do is focus on what’s right in front of you, and let that be enough.

3.) Garden Notes
Hydrangeas are just beginning to take off, and a little care now can make all the difference later on. I recently updated my Limelight hydrangea guide with simple tips on pruning, timing, and encouraging full, healthy blooms. If you have hydrangeas in your yard, it’s a helpful resource to revisit right about now.

4.) Gather & Savor
For a while now, I’ve let my diet slip a bit. Nothing terrible, but I wasn’t making the best choices either. So last week, I decided to get back on track and prepped salads for lunch. I can’t tell you how nice it was to open the refrigerator and have something fresh and ready to go. The salads were filling, but still light, and they made such a difference in how I felt throughout the day. Sometimes it’s the simplest changes that help us find our way back to better habits.

5.) THINGS WORTH MENTIONING
- What You Might Have Missed: over the weekend, I shared two spaces that feel especially good right now. The patio is simple, with just enough room for herbs and a few flowers, and the living room has been refreshed for summer with a lighter, easier feel.
- I have quite a few recipes here on the site, and lately I’ve been working to organize them into collections that are truly useful. Think brunch ideas, side dishes, and coming this weekend, a collection of picnic favorites. Putting these together has been such an enjoyable process for me, and my hope is that it makes it easier for you to see what’s here and find something you’ll want to try.
- Wishing you a peaceful week. XO
