christmas 2019 ideas 2

My goals for the coming holiday season are very simple. First, I want to make our Christmas decor feel fresh and new. I sorted through all my decorations, donated what I don’t want, and made plans to reinvent the rest. Second, I would like it all to be very cozy, but not overdone.

As always, I bought a few new things to help revive and update what I already had. (All links are listed at the end.) I probably spent too much money, but I’ll make it up somewhere else along the way. One of the nice things about planning your Christmas decor early is that you can make budget adjustments! I’ll just spend less someplace else, and hopefully I won’t be too far off.

Like I do every year, I started with the front porch. I couldn’t resist the new snowman doormat and pillows, and they go perfectly with the buffalo check items I already have. On the inside, plans include a wreath in our front window, pine garland with white lights, plaid bows, and pops of red everywhere. I found the blue snowflake pillow covers while roaming around online, and I plan to leave them out through the winter months. It killed me not to buy the red ones, but I know the blue was the right choice.

Christmas 2018

I’m sticking with the tabletop tree idea, but it will be different from previous years. We needed a change, and I think it’s a good one, but I’m keeping it under wraps until I’m sure it’s going to work out.

Last year, a lot of you asked about the set of three red gingham & plaid buckets that I used in my decor. They sold out very quickly, and I know some of you were disappointed. The set is available again this year, but if you want it, get it now! I also shopped around and found some alternate ideas. Click the links below to take a look.

The magazine cover above is the inspiration for my shelves in the living room. I have the ironstone pitchers and some plates. The greenery and other accessories should be easy enough to gather together. Stay tuned for the final product!

  1. Ann, For some reason your emails were kicked into spam. I had been looking in trash & spam for several days, & today I found your email in spam. I told them you were safe, so I’m pretty sure that this “thing” is over. I’m so glad to get back to you; I truly missed hearing from you.
I had missed your emails for a month or more. This was an early Christmas surprise.

  2. Cecilia from Georgia says:

I love the bookcase idea! For what it’s worth to anyone buying matching stockings—-buy an extra one in case there is a new addition to your family! Especially if you are monogramming them, because chances are, that style will not be sold next year :).

    1. Ann Drake says:

Great tip…thank you! I bought a stocking for my granddaughter two years ago, and now I can’t get the same one for my new grandson. I think I’m just going to start over!

  7. Your excitement for Christmas really shows through in this post! And I love your approach in keeping it fresh and festive! Can’t wait to see all the upcoming posts. Your shot of the Country Home cover inspires me too. I want to incorporate that ‘feel’ in my kitchen hutch that I have filled with white pitchers. And I FINALLY found my first piece of ironstone too – in a consignment shop! How it got to Southern California I will never know – but I am happy it did!

  8. Mary from Virginia says:

You always have the prettiest ideas!!

Tried to look at the throws on line and Wayfair’s site was down due to heavy traffic! Yikes! I better keep checking back.

Looking forward to the recipes. I’ve used several of yours and they are always a hit. Thank you so much!
